Terrible idea.

Get a weighted vest that is actually made for this type of activity and distributes weight properly throughout your core.

There is a reason why the vast majority of military injuries occur from carrying their gear around and not from combat.

I do weighted vest hill sprints and use it to pull weighted sleds, there is no way you are doing that with a ruck sack without injuring yourself.

A while back I bought a ruck sack from Amazon. Was excited to use it. Put the thing on and I smelled like a Chinese chemical factory. The chemical odor was really bad so I returned it the following day. Sucks

it destroyed my tshirt too. It stunk like chemicals so bad

What I do is walking with two 15 pound weights in hands (Farmers Walk)

or I will jog with two 8 pound weights in hands. Or sometimes sprints with two 8 pounders In hands

the ruck sack sounds like a great idea but I’m not sure where to buy one. I’ve watched expert body weight training guys rock it out on the high bar but once they put on a 25 pound vest they’re not pulling the weight

I'll let you go ahead and think that. I likely deployed on my second tour while you were wondering if you should pop a zit or not.

Seriously though, that old gear is still sketch even if you were to dunk it in every detergent known to man. You're also always going to find sand. Best to buy that stuff new.

Seconded - if your legs are not trained and you will start carrying on too much on the regular basis you can easily overload knees and get permanent injury in that sector of legs - I have a friend that carried out his children too much, aside of that lifted heavy objects from time to time and was regurarly spending a lot of time im his car driving. He went on one short trip for hiking with standard hiking load (backpack) - guy injured both his knees by trekking too fast on the first day because his legs were not trained enough for all the stress he put on them.

When you are around 40 its much better to carefully train and slowly include more repetitions/load in various types of training rather thaj simply jumping full frontal into some particular activity like you are still 20-something.
