"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Seven months ago I hooked up with my friend's (let's call him Dave) ex-gf (but they were still seeing each other and they still are). Dave stopped talking to me but her and I started getting really close. A few months ago Dave started talking to me again and through the entire 7 months that I've been seeing her, she's been seeing Dave as well (everyone was fully aware of it). Well, him and I got sick of her doing this to us (because we both really like her) and we decided that it wasn't right (there was a bunch of other problems too, but they're unimportant) what she was doing to us so we both planned to drop her from our lives at the same time.

Well, plans didn't work out. Now him and her are back together and it's really hard on me. We both still like each other but I really don't want to backstab Dave again, even though it's so tantalizing. I'm pretty sure I could convince her to start seeing me secretly but I'm not sure if that's the best idea. I like her so much and it's hard being just friends but I HAVE to be something. I can't just not talk to her. She's my closest and best friend now.

I don't know what to do. Do I try and carry on a secret relationship with her (like how we had when we first hooked up) or do I deal with us being just friends and hope to eventually get over her? The problem with getting over her is all my friends say it's hard when you still talk to the girl, but as I said earlier, I can't just stop talking to her. I've tried. It's even harder because of all the jealousy I have to put up with because they're together now.

Thanks, guys.

"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

Forget it. It's stupid to be anything but open and honest. In the end, you'd only end up losing both of them as friends, permanently.

I suppose you're right. I'll just have to take the hard, yet more rewarding, way out.
