I've already noticed that with a chick I was talking to at my part time second job. Casually talking. I'd gotten her number though her talking about smoking pot and getting drunk a few times on weekends when I asked what she did turned me off even though she is a hottie and I never called her to hang out. In my case I didn't flinch and kept talking for a minute or so after while ignoring what she said.
My reaction was none and since the drug mention and the boyfriend drop out of the blue I wasn't willing to invest period.
Who'd want to waste time "trying" to go after a chick who just dropped the boyfriend out of the blue in conversation? Perhaps some desperate h0rny dude who feels the need to prove his "confidence" to some chick who's already dropped boyfriend. Not I. In the OPs case it's a jealousy reaction card. Possibly in mine too though.
