My best friend is getting married in mid May. I'm standing up as his best man and want to look damn good rockin a tux. Right now I'm soft and pudgy but not hugely overweight (5'10 190lbs) I'm planning on hitting the gym at the beginning of the new year. Any specific workouts I should be doing and foods I should be avoiding (already cut the fast food out)? I'm not expecting to be ripped with six pack abs by then, just don't want to be a fat dude in a tux.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Do it for yourself, not just the wedding. However, 6 months is enough time. You can be in great shape if you dedicate a lot of time towards it.

6 months won't get you much. I'd work on perfecting your posture if anything.

Six months is a lot of time. I would say start with the Stronglifts 5x5 program if you have access to a gym. If not, there's nothing wrong with interval running, push ups, pull ups, dips, and ab work.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
