My friend said to me on facebook today that he's getting engaged.

Why is he in such a rush to get engaged? It's a horrible idea, especially with the whole honeymoon period (honeymoon as in that emotional high the first three months roughly). Being engaged doesn't help, as its a forced connection now that has to be broken if they want some away time from each other, which is bound to happen with their first argument. And that will build resentment on the fact that they're together so fast. It's different if you know what you're getting into and have that agreement to who they are truly in your head. Which can't be done so soon (everyone presents their best side to who they like, but they will go to normal eventually).

All in all, I don't think it'll turn out well.

Yeah man at the beginning everything's gravy. I don't consider I know a person until we have had at least a couple crazy experiences together and can sit around and be bored together.

One of them must be rich! Either your friend is a player and the girl is super rich. Or the girl is a gold digger and your friend is super rich. What kind of assets he has?

^I agree. One of them is up to something and probably used the whole "we not getting any younger" speech to convince their partner. Spontaneous engagements always have a hidden agenda.

Sounds like one of them is some kind of case (BPD/gold digger/etc.) but it doesn't have to be that way either.
