Modern society's reaction to the Olympics' Condom Shortage

I'm fascinated by all the news that happens every Olympics, whether winter or summer, where they report that the sex sprees that occur at the housing units of the athletes continues to be high. And why this has to be important. And both the Olympics try to desuave athletes from participating (sex bans) to the news shaming them. This has made me stop and think today after seeing it once again this year.

Why is the news and society trying to point attention to this activity? What is it do they get out of it? Is it just typical puritan attitudes? Are they projecting the personalities of the typical tv watcher? Maybe they find it interesting. Whatever the case, I wonder why it's such an important headline. Yeah, young people are having sex. That happens everyday. Hell, it happens constantly on college campuses. And yet for some reason, the thought of these prime athletic men and women staying together is suppose to be a bad thing that they engage in sexual activities.

I highly doubt this is them caring for if someone gets std or pregnant or cheating on their lover back home, cause the news and society doesn't work that way. My thought experiment is how this fuels the female order of perceiving this. Why does it bother them.

The fact is that male Olympians are at the highest level of genetic fitness, and the female Olympians know this. I'd also point out my speculation that elite female athletes have a higher level of testosterone than the average female (although still well below that of the average man) - which makes them superior athletes within their sex classification - and so they are hornier than the typical female.

If women were not so prude socially, the sex at gyms would be far more likely considering the environment. Bunch of roided/ muscled guys mixed with fit women (and women looking to be fit), is the right concoction. The problem is that stigma and the public display. That's why the Olympians can get away with it in their housing.

Fatuous stories such as those are the journalistic equivalent of Easy Listening... They attract millions of soccer moms to the outlet reporting them, who spend weeks mulling over that nonsense, while pounding back an oil tanker's worth of Yellow Tail


Long-form journalism on subjects like The so-called War On Terror being anything but over, and it's continued failure to put much ot a dent in Al Quaeda by contrast, appeals to a much smaller, more niche audience

Can't fault NewsCorp and Disney for giving consumers what they want. This is the byproduct of a general public who's commitment to staying oblivious to life's grittier aspects rivals Roman Catholicism's determination to remain in The 1300s

Most civilised countries actually encourage their better students to do sports. So these people are in the prime of their life, good physical shape and used to the fratbot life style...if you studied for a while at an academy or university you know what's goes down in these Olympic cities.

If I remember correctly, last year the big story the media promoted was the Olympic committee constructed these single card board beds for the athletes that were only big enough for one person to help guard against fornicating.

No, the minute their events are over. Many of these competitors are done within the first week or well before the Olympics are over but they remain there the entire time to participate in the closing ceremonies, etc

There is thousand of athletes between 18-25, all who are athletic and good looking. It is like college basically, and I imagine Olympic athletes are a little more discipline about pregnancy prevention than your average couple.

As to why is this reported, probably to cause a reaction, for clicks, or someone needs to meet their quota. It happens in every Olympic event if I remember correctly.
