For me, and for some time, it has been gladiator: a slave who became a hero who defied and defeated an evil emperor who was threatening the empire. Then Braveheart: a man who fought against injustice, and for the freedom of his people. Then Legends of the Fall: the story, romance and tragedy of the "romantic hero".

BUT NOW?

The Matrix, or The Lion King!

Why?

They were both lost kings and saviors forgotten by the world, till a woman, with the support of allies, awakened their sleeping genius, they rose to heights of power and overthrew evil, bringing freedom for all, once again.

What's yours? And why?

Let's talk story, and how it inspires and impacts our lives!

Hey Welcome to the forum Bro.

For me personally, I would say it would be good classics like ' To Kill a Mockingbird', 'Rocky', School of Rock, happy Gilmore. Just characters who are deeply flawed, shows anti hero tendencies but over comes great struggles in the end.

Would you say your life story echoes the story of the heroes in these stories, or is it just something that you admire and maybe aspire to become, as them? I think the reason for our favorite movies (and I think a man shouldn't go on a second date with a woman if he doesn't yet know her favorite movie and how the protaganist echoes her life story or aspirations) is that we identify with its hero in some way, and we draw inspiration and strength in knowing they, at last, prevailed victories.

Gladiator is a great show as is matrix and lion king. For me it depends on my mood what show i think of. I watched a lot of movies before. Check out Fight Club(1999), and Grave of the Fireflies (Anime). BloodSport, Rageing Bull. Lots of others including Christmas Carrol.

Lol probably because there very relatable and the problems they face are universal but in a much larger scale. Some characters are admirable from the start, some they grow on you during the movie.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Hi Travels,
In my youth I went to the Movies maybe three times a week, there was no TV till 1962....The movies that were offered were incomparably better than today,In the US 80 million movie seats a week were sold in 1939...Look at the movies available,1939 alone saw nearly 400 Movies like "Gone with the Wind","Wizard of Oz","Of Mice and Men",Stage Coach","Hunch Back of Notre Dame"...We had all these plus some of the best British and French movies...Today while there are a few Gems, from producers like David McLean and Guy Ritchie in the main it is banal rubbish.

Do you prefer watching characters who are already admirable -- or the ones that are kind of weak and insecure in the beginning, but they grow into strong, confident individuals by the climax? Watching which one has the better payoff, would you say?
