You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.
For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.
Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.
The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

If you ban "assault weapons", incels will move on to other types of guns. A pump action shotgun can do a lot of damage and is not difficult to use. If you ban all guns period, incels will find other ways to kill people. Here in Canada, we had an incel who drove a rented van down a pedestrian sidewalk and killed 11 people.
Ammonium nitrate fertilizer and diesel fuel is even easier, but thankfully American education is dumbed down enough that no one understands chemistry.
Its called preventive measures. An Incel with an AR-15 has been the most destructive out of any person due to the convenience of getting one and the firepower/range advantage it provides.
or I can just go buy an Ar-15
Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.
She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.
Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.
So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.
The words come later. The impression comes first.
It is less efficient at killing than an AR-15. That means less people die at any given event.
Correct. Less efficient ways to kill.
Ok? Snowplow example above.
Wrong. Guns now are more efficient at killing and civilians have greater access to them.
Not the only way. Mental health and gun restrictions are not mutually exclusive. Both can be applied concurrently.
No offence but this is a stupid argument. If it turns out that, statistically speaking, a Honda Civic is the most popular choice with bank robbers for a getaway car, do you think that bank robberies will decrease if that particular automobile is banned?
Exactly. This thread proves why events like this will continue. Instead of a debate over the 393 million privately owned firearms in the US, these events should inspire a discussion about improving mental health in our society. The primary driver of these types of killing events.
Are you afraid of being hit by a car or struck by lightning every time you leave the house? The chances of you being killed in a mass shooting are actually lower. Better lock yourself up in that basement. Wouldn't want to risk getting attacked by a rabid squirrel should you venture outside
The moment it become a daily routine where people plow their truck into crowds, then yeah. Thats the moment you need to make adjustments. A quick google check learns this happens occasionally, let's say every 6 months on average. Compare that with mass shootings.
bank robberies and mass shootings are two different things
Then what’s this plan because I haven’t heard anything yet other than just use a grenade lol
You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.
Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.
Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.
Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.
This is an even dumber argument. And statistically speaking, insuring a Honda Civic is more expensive than other comparable compact cars.
That’s a false choice and a deflection. Gun restrictions and mental health Issues are not mutually exclusive.
Our main concern in America is the government.
False.
Give me a break. In Europe, you have no-go zones where even cops are afraid to venture. I would feel much safer at an NRA convention surrounded by people who armed to the teeth compared to walking the streets of certain parts of Marseilles, Malmo, Birmingham, etc.
Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."
You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.
She's been waiting forty minutes.
Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.
No one is advocating banning guns and to negate an AR-15 than everyone has to be walking around with Ar-15s. It makes no sense, y’all claim this country has a mental illness issue but want everyone walking around with guns lol.
The point that you are missing is that you can't just ban one type of gun or car and hope that crime will go down. You will have to ban all guns (and somehow confiscate the hundreds of millions that are already in circulation). It ain't gonna happen.
So should everywhere be equivalent to an NRA convention?
No! I would get as far away from the place as I can. I’m only drawing if I’m pinned and have no other choice.
As far as I'm aware, there has never been a mass shooting at an NRA convention. So perhaps you are on to something.
She calls you when her car breaks down. When she needs help moving. When some guy she's actually dating treats her badly.
You're the listener. The reliable one. The guy who would treat her so much better, if she'd just open her eyes.
She won't. You trained her to see you as the low-effort option — the friend who requires zero risk and zero investment. Every favor dug the hole deeper.
The "22 Rules" break the pattern. You'll stop auditioning for a role she already cast and become the man she chases instead. It starts with Rule 1.
