But if you have any long term aspirations, then it's absolutely necessary. The more the better. Of course, it's only one trait out of many that make a well rounded person. Definitely not a shortcut, and definitely not only applicable to creating attraction in ladies.
Being able to read between the lines, or to "read the air" as they say in Japan, is highly dependent on emotional intelligence.
If you were in sales, for example, having more emotional intelligence would be a huge asset, all else equal.
Despite beliefs to the contrary, all humans (not just ladies) are extremely emotional and rarely logical.
We ain't vulcans, that's for sure.

Logic and emotion are not friends.
What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

That phrase is referring to how well someone can read and express emotions. And it’s describing the intelligence one has with emotions. Hence the ‘-al’ after emotion. Plus, ‘emotion’ was placed before ‘intelligence’. It would have been oxymoronic had that been reversed but it isn’t. Syntax and suffixes are key to determining what this means here.
