I'm sorry, but I always laugh sarcastically when I hear of women like this one in this story below. "I'm going to prove to the world just how independent and strong of a woman I am even though I will probably die anyway". This woman reminded me of Amelia Earhart who I also laugh at. What she tried to do was insane for the time (even though she had a male co-pilot which history never mentions). Back to the dame in the article below; She hiked 2600 miles across the USA and ski'd to the South Pole. Both of those were big achievements with moderate danger, why not stop while you are ahead lady? Why go kayaking down the Amazon River where you KNOW you will be robbed and killed by savage humans? Hasn't your ego been stroked enough by the other big things you did that were not as stupid? Dumb broad. She didn't deserve to die but I gotta laugh at her anyway.

I know this isn't the point, but Fred Noonan was along on Earhart's around the world trip as a navigator, not to fly the plane. In fact, although he was respected in his field, many blame his navigational errors for the loss of the plane. He had them quite off course on an earlier leg of their journey, but they didn't end up over the ocean in that case.

Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly the Atlantic solo, and only the second person to do it (Charles Linbergh was the first). She was hoping to use the funds she got from her round the world flight to do scientific testing to further aviation, which she loved. She was no joke.

Flight back then was a risky venture, and it is a matter of debate how good of a pilot Earhart was. But there's no question she was a courageous woman. What happened to her (and Noonan) was a tragedy, even though they knew the risks involved. She was just as flawed a human as anyone else. I have a lot of respect for her.

I'm not sure there's much difference between her, an admitted adrenaline junkie, who kept hitting the adrenaline pipe until it killed her, and an old school drug addict chasing the dragon until it kill him.

Except maybe one is considered heroic and inspirational, while the other is considered self-destructive and stupid.

The article also mentioned that she didn't start thrill seeking until after her father died.

Kind of a sad story.

Obvious death wish. I mean surely it would be better to go in a group and surely you would be armed. Pirates are of course cowards they don't want to take anyone on who will shoot back.
