I don't think I'd ever start by walking up to a woman, asking her how her night's going, and then immediately walking away...but the advice about warming up socially all day beforehand and going to the gym that day, that's solid, I'm going to start doing that. What is the idea behind step 8?

Step 8 (to recap), says:
If you've done everything above correctly, women will notice you and will look at you. Scan the room with your eyes and approach women who've given you eye contact by simply saying, "How are you enjoying yourself?" Be careful that you're not interrupting her on the dancefloor or while she's already engaged in conversation! After her reply, tell her you'll see her later on and politely excuse yourself. (other women will notice this...this is the point!)

The "idea" behind Step 8, is you want to establish a good rapport with the women in the club. Women are highly competitive and if you are seen fraternizing and garnering positive attention with women in the spot, other women will vie for your attention. I've had many-a-night where a variety of women are "choosing" on me. (Showing signs of interest such as consistent glances/stares, touching, preening, etc). Plus once you've already spoken to her, even thought brief, it makes it easier to swoop by and just take her hand and dance. Later in the night, you'll look like a superstar if you've gained a rapport with all the attractive women in the club. Also, you'll be able to gauge which one has the most interest in you.
