It sounds like to me like he should have traded her in for later model. An older woman's only value is in her devotion, which an affair shatters.
My opinion:
Pretty much. What kind of beta sad sack was this guy that he couldn't get a better woman? I'm guessing fear of loss and being alone was his downfall. Basically a lack of options. Goes to show you why guys in relationships still need to have game, if not to keep the woman interested then at least to keep her on her toes with the knowledge in the back of her mind that other women will snap him up the first chance they get if she drops the ball. Basically having "hand" in the relationship.
