Keep in mind that facebook for the big part is not about keep in touch or see what friends are doing, for most people facebook is more like a private tv channel to broadcast and sell themselves through a created fake life made of accurately chosen pictures and posts.

I know 2 chicks with that many friends. Both blonde, both good looking. Both crazy! One is histrionic, she even describes her own symptoms to a T regarding her personality. Sometimes we deliberately pay attention to her cube neighbor at work just to drive her crazy. She needs all the attention. The other blonde is borderline. She's all sugary sweet on facebook, but a whiney beeatch in real life. Both use facebook to craft their false images. So having 1000 viewers works for them. It's all fake of course.
Women crave attention by nature. Facebook is a platform to give them the attention fix that they need.
