it is a challenging struggle. Best to have a couple of tricks to take yourself out at the knees to buy time(one trick I've been known for by family and friends is to go for an immediate, long distance walk regardless of proper footwear, weather, availability of water or unacceptable excusal of my sudden absence. I simply start one foot in front of the other until the emotion has dissipated-usually 2 or 3 hour walk- the exercise hormones and biochemicals, the fresh air and hopefully bright sunshine, the exhaustion and the change of scenery all work to change my perception of the 'people, place or thing' that contributed to the extreme emotion)
to let the emotions dissipate. There's no stopping the emotions, only the solution of holding on for a period of time until they lessen.
Waves at the shoreline is what emotions are.
The big waves eventually become smaller in time.
I've tried denying, hiding, turning my back on and even amplifying to try to get the volume of emotions to dissipate out quicker but the best is to let them naturally occur with patient observance until they pass. And to take advantage of the neutral lulls in between waves to make your most logical decisions from a calmer tide.

I think logically they want a guy who treats her well. And despite all the reverse psychology aspects of PUA theory, I don't think they are attracted to guys who mistreat them (damaged women aside). I think it's just that they get attracted to a guy for different reasons, because he's tall, or handsome, or has a large penis, or a lot of friends, or high status, or whatever. And it just so happens it turns out that guy doesn't treat her well, because he has a lot of options, and she doesn't represent that important a part of his life, because she is easily replaceable.
Both men and women are attracted to people who make themselves look better. A guy will want to date "up", and might get hung up on a very hot girl, because having her on his arm makes him look good. Like, hey this HB9 wants to date me, that must mean I'm a high value, high status guy also. So both men and women can get hung up on people above their league, for that reason. And people above your league don't always treat you that well.
