During our group call in the Dating Evolved Academy the other night, one of the members told us that she’d joined a singles club - with hope in her heart -but it just wasn’t what she’d expected. She sounded super-frustrated and fed-up when she said:

“Why don't men turn up to the events in singles groups? They join the club but they don't turn up - are they just lazy?

Another member added that she'd tried a speed dating event recently and there were twice as many women as men. And the men that were there were so old it seemed like they were at death's door!

It’s such a common problem, especially for older age groups, and one that must give the organisers of any kind of singles event a headache. There are almost always more women than men, unless the organisers cap the numbers for each sex, meaning of course that tickets for women are in short supply.

Then the problem tends to be that while different women turn up to each event, the men tend to be the same ones popping up over and over.

I have my theories about why this happens – a bit of speculation mixed with what we know from the science of sex differences, plus some input from actual men, which y’know is useful.

I suspect men’s reticence with this stuff is less to do with being ‘lazy’ and more to do with the fact that on average, they’re less inclined to socialise generally than women are. Men haven’t depended over evolutionary time on their social networks to the same extent as woman have, so they tend not to put the same time and effort into maintaining this social support.

The result is then that men – especially older men - are less likely to have friends who will encourage them to go to these events, or friends to actually go along with them in a pair or a group like women often do. So unless they’re really determined, men are less likely to summon up the gumption to get out there. It’s more uncomfortable and it’s less fun if you’re on your own.

Another reason men often avoid events specifically organised for singles may come down to the direct way men compete with other men
– which is different from the more covert competitive behaviours that women display with each other (we do - often without even being consciously aware).

As a result of this direct competition men tend to have bigger egos than women – what better way to get others to think you’re better, stronger, more attractive than them than to believe it yourself - and that makes it harder for a lot of men to admit that they might need a bit of help in finding a partner.

This overt competition among men also means it’ll strike fear into their hearts
(particularly the empathetic ones) to walk across that floor and speak to a woman – especially an attractive woman who’s with a group of others – because if he gets rejected he’s going to be crushed. And right in front of all the other guys…

I would absolutely advocate going to singles events, because I know from first-hand experience that they have the potential yield great outcomes, if you’re prepared to be a bit proactive.

But of course it’s no panacea and I would prioritise instead going to events/clubs/classes where men go.

So where DO they go?

Some kinds of sports clubs are a good bet: golf, skiing, tennis, kayaking.

Music-based clubs, although don’t go to a choir expecting to find a man because they tend to be at least 90% women!

Even the cliched stuff like car maintenance or DIY. There’ll definitely be a pile of men there and you’ll learn some useful stuff.

There are tons of possibilities – for some ideas to get you going see my blog post on this.

Men, on the whole, like DOING things rather than just being somewhere and chatting face-to-face. And to be honest, plenty of women too would rather meet others in a less high-pressure environment, so it’s worth trying out places where you can get to know others gradually while you’re all focussing on a common activity. It’s a good opportunity to see how people interact with others and potentially grow to like them before having to decide about whether there’s any romantic potential.

Of course, all these things – finding a suitable club or class, getting to know people, working out who’s single – this all takes time, and singles events can be a good shortcut to finding someone eligible.

I've attended a few SE's, and found them to be no less ineffectual than networking events... Everyone in a room trying really hard to get something out of someone else = Attraction flatlining, faster than did the cast Smallville's careers, once that series wrapped

YMMV though. I'm personally acquainted with a few couples who met at such gatherings, and have read/seen interviews with several more

It's interesting how men complain that there's too much competition on dating apps. But they won't go to single's events when there's little competition.

Personally, if I were single, I won't go to single's events either. Too high pressure. The same with speed dating.

Maybe because they instinctively know that going to such an event they metaphorically carry a big sign with LOSER written on it. Everybody from the organisers to the participants can see it clear as day but all pretend they don't. Men know that's not how you're supposed to meet a woman. There's no mystery and increased flirting over a period of time as it would happen in a natural environment. The other half of the problem is the fact that women going to such events are left-overs.

The author OP quotes proves my point: she's had her fun in her 20s, then married, had 2 kids, divorced, had some more fun, and then pushing 50yrs old, found a sap at a singles event. :D Look at his face, he has beta all over it.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I used to go to singles dance events. It was maybe 55 percent women and 45 percent guys. But very few, maybe 1 in 30, ended up dating somebody from there.

It was ultimately just a social club for people to get out of the house and socialize with other regulars like a big clique.

What a brutal article. Proving every part of the blackpill and hypergamy true.

I've never gone to a singles event, but I used to know a guy whom I worked with. The guy wasn't bad looking, he was actually handsome but he was 37 year old single father(this was several years ago so he's probably in his 40s or 50s now). The women there are not attractive, according to him; out of 10 women, only 2 were attractive, and they were 15-30 years older than him

Having seen pictures of random single events and groups, I would go to a club, then talk to a big girl with a pixie cut who is woke

Well it sounds like they do nothing but ridicule the men who do actually make an effort to show up so why would anyone reading that want to sign up to be ridiculed as well?

Why would someone of value go to a singles event in the first place?
Exactly. They don't.

But you have to understand that going out socially (whether to do an activity, a bar, a restaurant or an event) requires effort. Time, money, effort....So called "singles events" are like a live version of online dating. But lots of people are too lazy/to cheap to go make the effort to go out and matriculate with people organically so these singles functions appeal to lazy people who want a short-cut.

You are better off actually going out imo.

I am not an expert here, and I wouldn't denigrate anyone for trying this, if it was an option to meet a partner.. short or long term.. kudos if thats an idea anyone has..

But why, oh why do I feel like this type of event would be over run with mainly women, essentially drinking from the desperation glass. My friend used to work in a hotel, which would fairly regularly host events like this for the over 40s. As cruel as this sounds, he suggested that the quality on display (both guys and gals) was through the floor...

But who knows.. 10 years from now? I'd like to think not..however..

Honestly I think this is a good hunting ground. The cringe factor keeps a lot of guys away. Chads aren't going to bother because dating apps have hotter girls and are far more efficient. Women like these events because it feels like a party to them and they get to dress up and sip prosecco and feel like they are fancy. A lot of the men are going to be wallflowers or will reek of desperation so if you are a reasonably outgoing guy who can work the room a bit then you can probably do quite well even if you aren't the best looking guy in the room.

The classic singles event is usually a hotel conference room or rooftop bar designed to appeal to women and feel a bit exclusive but there are also more modern events centered around activities e.g. bowling that are more like a fun mixer.

You can go out but let's face it the bar scene isn't what it used to be.

I had great success at singles events when I moved to Australia they were just starting up when I arrived it took a while to catch on but within 6 months they were repeatedly selling out 100+ tickets a night

The standard of women attending was pretty average a lot of 5's / 6's , couple of 7's and then you'd get the odd sprinkle of 8's who didn't really need to be there but were either trying it out or had tagged along with a freind

I found Australian men were generally not that assertive in their approaches preferring to wait for women to approach them , I took full advantage of this dyamic and approached like a bull in a china shop.

My one night stand success rate at these events was higher than anything I've ever experienced even higher than when I was 21/22 and clubbing 3 nights a week.

It was ridiculously easy to get laid.

I remember chatting with this asian chick for about 30 mins before suggesting we go back to her place

As far as why don't men turn up to single events question , I have no idea ??

They are a hell of a lot more efficient than any dating app

Maybe it's because modern women can be intimidating ? , I think a lot of men have gotten used too hiding behind a screen and firing off pointless messages on instagram / tinder and don't back themselves to approach or keep a conversation going in person with a stranger

Makes no sense for women to go to a singles event unless they are used up or ugly in some way. Or old. Usually old. Most men at least know that women have it very easy getting men. So if a woman has to go to a singles event, she's usually not that attractive or high value in any capacity. It only makes sense if it's a non western country where women aren't as slutted out and the men are not as assertive.

They seem humiliating an to me, based on what I've seen at least. They also seem insincere/unnatural, somehow moreso than a dating app. There's nothing worse than trying to meet women with an agenda.

Men just aren't motivated to chase post-menopausal chicks. And I think for men who have been "confirmed bachelors", there is the idea that if a slice of female population were not interested in dating us when they were young, why should we date them when they're old? I mean really - new women are really only romantically useful when they are attractive (an avatar for being fertile), or if we need a nursemaid.
