why does my shaker bottle smell bad

I use whey protein concentrate. every so often, I will drink a shake, leave my bottle out, and it will have a stale, musky smell when I come back. Water alone usually doesn't wash it out, I need some soap, and even then, the smell comes back. Other times it disappears.

Has this happened to anyone? Bacteria? Fungus? Little green men?

Ways to stop it?

Ways to stop it?

Umm, wash it out after each use and let them air dry. If you don't you're just creating a petri dish full of things that could wreak havoc on your system if you ingest some. Also, use several bottle and rotate them periodically.

Buy a **** load of disposable plastic 20 oz beer cups and drink your shakes out of those...

Thats assuming you use a blender.

use a properly diluted bleach solution (directions on the bottle of bleach) and make sure you use something like a scrub brush on the inside.

Definitely scrub it and use soap at least, my blender started to get this haze on it after a while since i was only rinsing it with hot water. This is not good.

You gotta rinse immediately after use, and use a dishwashing liquid with hot water, let it dry and your done, and your good :rock:

Even when you clean it well it still smells after its dry again, you basically need something that kills the odour like baking powder or vinegar

And after that it'll smell on vinagar. I currently don't use protein shakes but when I was using it I would wash it firmly with dishwasher soap and that's it, it didn't smell after that.
