I've on numerous accounts have had girls say this to me when they get in my car and notice it's a stick shift.

I'm not saying I purposely drive a manual transmission because girls find it sexy. I'm just curious why they do.

All joking aside, I agree that it is a man vs machine control thing.

Plus it's not an easy skill to learn from a girl's perspective.

Plus girls might think it's a sports car feature that means the car is fast lol.

When people "like" things, it's usually for subconscious reasons that can't be explained. Like the saying, "attraction isn't a choice," what we don't like and like isn't because we consciously decide to like or not like something.

I suspect girls "like" guys who drive a stick because that gives them the "feeling" that the guy "controls" things, instead of being controlled.

You might say that the car represents the basic mechanics of life, and the stick represents his hands on approach to making life do what he wants it to do.

Again, nobody is thinking this consciously, but that's kind of the metaphorical feeling or impression that it gives.

Mechanics always say that it's better to use the brakes than to use the transmission to slow down. A brake is made to wear, and is a lot cheaper to replace than a clutch.

BTW, I've driven about 200K miles with a stick.

This reminds me of a porn I watched in my teenage days.

Girl was at the rmv getting a road lesson. The instructor had her mimic shifting with her hands then he tells her to use her mouth which he then proceeds to take his "stick shift" out of his pants and has her practice on that.

This is just way over the top man.

Anyway, I taught myself how to drive stick, and also how to rebuild the manual transmission that came with the car I learnt on. Long story short, synchros are a much bigger PITA than your clutch will ever be, so I'd worry about that first. Same advice though. Downshifting to third is fine, but hard shifting into second regardless of what gear you're coming from is asking for trouble down the road.
