The way I read the story, this was a STRANGER who entered the house hopped up on drugs. Maybe I'm wrong about that, and if so maybe the OP can clear it up. But I know of several similar stories in the last few years in my experience. Some psychotic, drugged up (or both) screwball entering someone's house, standing on someone's porch, going door to door, or following people down the street.
