Of course I'm sure you know that
You'll want to fluff a little and kino a little before the movie, that way its not too awkward if you kino her during the movie.
Don't ask her if you can touch her, be sure of yourself, if you're feel that whatever you are doing is right then it's right, she has to enter your world.
I like to start by holding her hand and sort of massaging it. Like move your thumb in little circles on her palm. Eventually you can move your hand up on to the wrist, which is one of those subtle, unknown "erogenous" zones.
If she's receptive to the hand massage, I usually put my other hand on her thigh (another ignored erogenous area). Start about midway, and maybe inch it up. But not too much or it might creep her out a little.
I think that the key to doing this is to be confident. Dosn't look at her for approval after taking her hand or something. Jut keep watching the movie as if you aren't doing anything out of the ordinary.

Seriously, EVERY movie date I've been going on, whether in the theater, her house, my place, wherever!, my arm is around her within the first 15-20 minutes!
You gotta change your perception of what is "awkward." Think of it as totally natural...and guess what, it WILL be natural, both to YOU and HER.
I've never had a girl pull away from this.
