What is an Awkward Pass?

So I was recently at a party where I was just flirting with everyone there, being fun. There were only 2 girls I actually wanted to get with there and one had mentioned how I made a few "awkward passes" on her. What's that mean? Do I come off as awkward by not saying things with enough confidence maybe? I try to speak with conviction

I was pretty drunk so it's a little hazey in my mind (New Years eve). One of them I told her she looked really sexy in her outfit, I guess that's too direct for her.
