well as for looks...some people are simply more attractive because their genes are better suited for more people...but that doesn't mean you can't look well kept..so make sure you do all that you can cause physical attraction, at least an infinitesimal amount, is necessary
as for "game," learn from them..and if you know you won't be able to do **** with them around, use your time with them as a chance to observe...and actually get numbers/girls when you're alone or with some other/fewer friends

You just have to outgame them. Most of my friends are good looking so I know what you're going through. You've lost in the looks department but it doesn't mean you can't get the girl, you have to be the better man.
Just go for couples. I have one mate who is much better looking than me whose got great game and I'm so jealous of him usually. But when we go to clubs we're basically eachothers wingman and go for pairs of girls.
Don't fight over a girl with him, it's bros before hos and you'll use friends that way. Word of warning, though, some guys will purposely hang out with guys not as good looking as them so they can get the girl and then ditch the other guy. Not saying that's what this guy is doing (you'll know if it is) it's just a side note.
