"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

ok i danced with this chick at the school dance on saturday. first off ive known her for a while. ok so she kind of initiated it. she just kinda grabbed my hands. so i ask, "so do you know how to dance?" she says, "yes!!". I say, "prove it" so she leads me to the middle of the floor and we grind. all is good until i try to help out my AFC friend. i give him an example of what to say and tell him to say what i said above. he wound up not dancing with anyone.

next day at basketball practice three of my friends, not close friends but friends say, "i heard about what happened last night." im like, "what are you talking about?" hes like, "your pickup line." i still have no idea what they talkin about. so i say, "what?". they say, "(name of friend) told me." now i remember and say," are you kidding me?". okay so turns out 2 more people walk into the locker room and question me. im thinking, what the hell is going on.
today i get to school and dont here anything til last period when some kid tell me that someone told him about it first period.

so here i am. this girl that ive worked my way seemingly all the way out of the friend zone. and im getting screwed by people.

lessons learned: dont trust anyone, even your closest friends and keep your fvckin mouth shut. should have considered that this kid has opened his mouth before like this and ive had to face the questions. not this bad tho.

i am looking for opinions on how to handle this and what to do if she hears about it. i sit next to her in one of my classes tomorrow and im preparing myself for her knowing about it.

my plan now is to play it low cuz it seems like all the mothafukkas being *****es about this are the ones that a.) didnt dance with anyone at the dance or b.) werent there at all. So im not goin to lower myself to their level. instead ill act like i dont even remember dancing with her when she asks me. i think im gonna take the i dont givva **** mentality.

could you guys give me some suggestions on how to handle this. it really is amazing how fast rumors spread when you see it all unfolding like this. WOW:cuss:

"She Made Her Decision Before You Finished Your Sentence"

Three seconds. That's how long it took. Your shoes. Your posture. The way you held your drink. Whether you looked at the floor or looked at her.

She already filed you away. Interesting. Boring. Safe. Bold. Before you even opened your mouth.

Everything you say after that is just her confirming what she already decided.

So stop rehearsing lines. Fix the first three seconds. Stand tall. Look up. Smile like you mean it. Walk like you belong wherever you're standing.

The words come later. The impression comes first.

Not bad but you have plenty of room to improve. Granted your only 15, but she shouldnt have even had to come up to you.

Plus why didnt you close on this, if your grinding, you should have asked and been like do you do this with all the guys, or only ones as good looking as me. She is forced to say yes, or concede that your that good looking and more likely she is going to concede. Then be like hey your pretty good at this, but I dont know I think i am having an off night, how bout you give me your number, and I will come over and we can practice sometime(big smile.)

So I wouldnt go off calling yourself this master DJ, but it is a good start, I like the prove it line though. As far as helping your AFC friend, its going to be tough not many 15 y/o's know what the heck they are doing and even if they are told what to do they still f' it up.

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.
