What do you do? Where do you want to look good? Work? Clubbing?
For suits/shirts/ties, I'd go up to Men's Wearhouse...they will get you looking good. They also have some good "mature man" casual wear there.
When I went to Vegas a couple years ago, they hooked me up with some nice silk gear for the heat...I didn't look half-bad. Also helped me match up some good shirt/tie combinations for work.

I'm an editor/graphic artist at a TV station. I do freelance production work. Usually in my 9-5 we wear company shirts and kahkis so I'm covered for work for now.
As for clubbing, I think I'll be going for the adult lounge type area...I do live in the deep south there is that to consider.
I'm going to be going out and seeing what the true players around here are wearing and basing my gear off that. After all, game is local. (gotta start taking my own advice eh!)

My style used to be more of the button down..designer jeans...nice shoes with blazers in the winter...something like this....

but as I gained weight I ended up with a closet full of clothes I can't wear. I recently lost everything in a fire, with no insurance I'm forced to start over from scratch on my wardrobe. Right now I have a bunch of work shirts and few pair of jeans and khakis I scooped up from walmart. As it stands I'm broke (again) and having to start all over on everything. Fortunately I picked up a roommate who has furniture and electronics...so after I get my bills sorted out I can start buying some new clothes. I'm just wondering if it's time to change my look now. And btw before the "get in shape crew" chimes in...I'm in the gym tomorrow at 6am. Might as well get fit before I commit to a look.
What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

i've been there with the weight.
i used to rock that look quite often.
i'd focus on the weight first if that is going to change, beucase if you buy clothes now you will be buying them later again anyway. never buy a full wardrobe utnil you are 100% satisfied wtih your size.
more important than the actual style of the clothes, is that they FIT.
that is half the battle. Fit to the T.

I think the best advice is to actually ask a woman, who knows about fashion and cares about you, about what you should wear. It is true that fit is much better for men. Unfortunately, we love to wear baggy comfortable clothes than uncomfortably fitting clothes.

my fiancee is as cute as button but her idea of style when i met her was blue jeans and a fitted shirt. she did not own 1 sundress, not one ****tail dress, i remember the first time i tired to really take her out, like REALLY take her out, she tried to wear some jeans.. and mind you she's 6 years older than me. but no she is a woman it must be right. i buy her clothes now and have for a while. she would find back alley stores and call me
The only girl I have ever... known that was anywhere near my level when it came to style is my old oneitis. if she told me something looked good I listened, because i knew just how in tune she was with fashion, which was pretty damned in tune.
most women read a damn fashion mag here or there, may flip by the style channel or think that because they go to the gap eveyr other weekend they know what looks hot and what doesn't. no.

She's gotten much better though.
but the main rule is clothes must fix. regardless of what you wear it will look 5x better if it fix.
i could wear that same outfit and look like a bum if it were a size too big or my shirt wasn't pressed or my pants were a size or two too big.
most women will tell you they want a man's clothes to not be soo tight. but most men aren't in shape. for a man that is not in shape that is great advise.
if you have a 6 pack and have arms that are not twigs, you want to show them off. you want your clothes to be as tight as possible without being uncomfortable.

i have had luck for general stuff going to the clothing thrift store or volunteers of america store. got 3 shirts, 3 prs of jeans, and western boots for $24. all hardly used. take your time, try stuff on. make sure they fit decently.
Once you have reached weight and muscle level you want, you spend money on the following; ONES IN BOLD ARE A MUST.
WORK WEAR- Slacks, dress shirts, ties, black dress shoes and a nice suit.
CASUAL WEAR (Cheapest)- Shorts, 2 pairs of less expensivejeans, t-shirts, polos, and short sleeve button ups, flip flops, swim trunks, sneakers for gym, nice sneakers (diesel or etc) for jeans and t shirt wear. Hoodies, sweaters, etc for winter.
GOING OUT OR DATING WEAR- 2 pairs of nice dark or medium wash jeans. 3 long sleeve going out shirts (guess, buckle, or more expensive stuff) they should be black, white, and whatever else color. 2 long sleeve shirts that are not too dressy or too club looking for dates or get togethers.
FIRSTWORK WEAR/SECONDCASUAL/THIRD GOING OUT OR DATING CLOTHES. That's the order you should shop. A man needs only three pairs of shoes (black oxfords, nice sneakers, gym sneakers) plus flip flops. He needs one suit, two dress pants, five work shirts (long sleeve) five ties, a nice watch, gym wear, nice sneakers for casual wear, polo shirts, plenty of t-shirts, socks, boxers, and very few short sleeve button ups. Essential are club shirts (3) and regular dress shirts but not work dress (non solid colors) for a date or something. A nice jacket in winter time, sunglasses in the summer. Don't be a ****head and wear sunglasses when its raining or inside buildings. A black belt for black shoes, a brown belt for everything else. A man should never wear jewelry unless he is married or wants to look and see what time it is.

Buy one piece of clothing in the desired size you'd like to be.
Place it out on a hanger in a place that's REALLY visible to you and just leave it there until you've reached your goal. I did that a while back and it worked. Now that I reached that goal (from XL to L)... I'm doing the same with a really nice M shirt.

Dear God stay away from styleforum.net. They have the absolute worst taste there. Read the thread "what I'm wearing today" and if you can get through 10 pages without bursting into laughter you deserve a pat on the back (or a therapist). If you want to NOT get laid then you'll follow the advice on styleforum.net.
R. Don Steele always said get a woman under the age of 30 to dress you, and follow what she says no matter how ridiculous you think it is. I did that with my hair. All the young chicks I know were telling me cut it short, like a buzz-cut. I always liked it long and swept back. I cut it short and sure enough I get lots more attention from chicks.
If you're dressing for young women, then let young women dress you.

You are one of my favourite posters on here and I know you'll figure out what works best for you even without our input.
Without having read ALL the posts I can say that having a female who's "plugged in" to all the fashion trends will work best. Take her shopping, try things on and let her pick what works, in her opinion. Then buy her lunch. I do this all the time. I've recently changed up my wardrobe and I bought things I thought were the weirdest or lamest outfits and then got complimented on them by other girls. I just gave my "personal stylists" full control and then bought what they suggested. It works.
Another thing I did was download something called the Style Bible. It was a pdf you should definitely check out. Great tips in there. Cheers!
