Very few countries outside of the US, Canada and some EU countries are onboard with trans rights.

This shouldn't be surprising. We are the vast minority in regards to this stuff.

Ukraine was well on its way to becoming a Western-style "liberal democracy", with all the appurtenant social policies, under the current and previous administrations. All part of the grooming process they were told they had to accept if they wanted to join the EU.
Zelensky is essentially a typical "progressive" politician: a shorter, Ukrainian version of Justin Trudeau if you will. He supports gay marriage, opposes gun ownership, etc, etc.

A birth certificate should be a record of gender at the time of birth, and should only be updated if medical science determines that the person was misclassified - and I would be open to allowing leeway for the case of true intersex/hermaphroditism (sorry, Caitlyn, you're still a man). That said, I support the ability of someone who wishes to be known as "O" to have that on xer ID document.
