Tips, suggestions about dumbbell plate rust

The rust won’t make the plates less heavy, will it? It doesn’t really matter as long as you aren’t scraping your knuckles across the dumbbells while you work out. And nobody is watching you, it doesn’t matter if they look pretty. If you care that much, plastic varnish should be fine.

You have a few options:
Removal:
- You can either soak them in a tub of high acidic vinegar for 24 hours and use steel bristled brush to remove any rust remaining.
-You can use a rust remover formula and steel brush or wool to remove most of it
- You can use a drill or power steel brush to get most of it off

Protection:
- Spray lubricant like WD-40 on it and rub it down.
- Use a Rust Converter and Spray paint it afterwards
- Use a Rust Encapsulator like POR-15. Classic Car Restorers been using this product for years to control rust.
