"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Fellows, advice would be appreciated. I've a date penciled in soon, recovering from a oneitis that had turned me into rubble. Rehabilitation is slow but sure, but it seems as if I've lost the sense of letting nature take its course.

How does one initiate those swift and sly brushes on the arm, feeling the hand and subtle skimming on the shoulder? Which lines would queue such an action from your behalf? The ones that give her a sample of your gentle touch, necessary for your feminine conquests?

I can only imagine that this task would seem obvious eventually, and subtlety would be lost. It'd be a pity if I end up feeling up her elbow for a good hour before scaring her off.

Thanks lads.

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

Yeah it's a first date, just to the movies and a casual dinner. The girl's one of the sweeter ones, with very little experience (she's never been in a relationship). I'd even call her a prude, but we don't know that yet...

I was far too used to playing 'spank-tag' with the oneitis subject, that's about the only 'non-intrusive' contact that we had. So you can see where I've worn down on.

Well i heard that the first dates or so should have some action. The date is supposed to be fun for her so that you leave her thinking positive about you which will in turn increase interest level. They say stay away from dates like dinners especially if you find you arent a good conversationalist or a newbie to the game.

I'm fine with conversation actually. I can keep one going, and besides, they do most of the talking so long as I keep going with open-ended questions. But it's just that. There's talk, plenty of it, but when should the quick bursts of physical contact occur in between? Perhaps I really should just trust my intuition to when, and what to do and let her make the first move.
