To be a target you have to seem innocent. It's irresistible to them.
They're so used to manipulate the others that they don't know that they can be easily manipulated!
The only way to deal with them is:
1. To use their own game, I mean manipulate them. They're craving for compliments/adoration, so you can use this to control them.

"Always conceal your intentions" - 48 laws of power
"The mirror is the best weapon! When you use the same strategy of your enemy, she can't notice what the well is going on!" - 48 laws of power
Those quotes are fantastic in defeating the narcissist/histrionic/borderline and other vampires out there!
Seem happy to them
Don't pay attention to them
Seem innocent to them
They'll be dying to mess with you!

2. To ignore them!
Indifference is absolutely your best tool in dealing with the NPD. They HATE indifference. Do not react in any way to anything she says or does. Any reaction, good or bad is supply for them. Any response you get will not be real, merely another attempt at manipulating the situation. Do not let her do that. It's what she wants. Somewhere to place the blame, and to make you feel as bad as possible.
"You are going to have to be stronger than you've ever been to block her… block e-mails, get caller ID. Se will not give up easily but you know you can't afford to have her in your life. Her denials and excuses will only confuse you more".
