For starters, removing your cats is a misdemeanor -- at least, around here -- and secondly, straight 4" pipes on a weeny-ass stock 4-banger would suck the nuts out of whatever torque the poor engine was attempting to generate to begin with.
An engine is essentially an air pump. Air has to go in and out of the engine as efficiently as possible. Period. If you hog out the exhaust and leave the engine stock, you will still have the same amount of air going in as going out. The exhaust flow will have the same
mass as the intake flow, but it will move at a far lower velocity -- think of blowing through a straw into a garden hose -- hence less inertia and less potential energy. A big exhaust on a small engine is detrimental to whatever ram effect (pressure caused by velocity) that the engine was initially capable of generating. The ram effect is critical for obtaining volumetric efficiency, which is the degree to which the cylinders fill on each stroke. Torque is the amount of energy that's transferred to the wheels with each stroke. Hence, you'd lose your torque real damned fast with 4" straight pipes on a stock 4-banger. Those engines aren't known for torque to begin with. This is, of course, if your engine ran at all.
This is why fart cans look stupid to hot rodders. They show that the owner knows so little about cars that they're paying money to fake something that would make their car run slower in the first place. :kick:
That's fart cans in a nutshell. Don't get me started on wings and downforce.
Besides all of this, the fact remains that anyone who knew enough about cars to even consider *actually* modifying his/her engine's performance instead of buying this sound effects box, wouldn't dream of buying something as stupid as this G0ddamn dumb@ss sound effects box.
I can't wait for the day some numbnuts pulls up next to me sporting a Lamborghini sound effects generator in his Neon. I hope he brings a spare set of doors.
Please, please, let spring get here soon. . ..
