Suggestion: Replace count system with post rating system...

No. Bad suggestion. Die.

I'd prefer a rating system to a post count system though. For instance, this message is practically worthless if not for this suggestion. Yet it's still included in the post count. I'd rather have people rate posts. There would be an Avg. (Post) Rating of 0 to 5 stars and how many posts were rated.

Is that understandable? I'm just thinking this up as I go.

By the way, I think the user rating system is also faulty as it doesn't really average the user's contributions to the community. It only averages the user's popularity amongst the community.

Each rated post must count towards the average user rating else a rating system will fail. Example:

The asterisks would become graphical stars though.

Only the rated posts would count in the post rating. All other posts not rated would not count.

Basically, only the important posts count towards your post count. But there wouldn't be a post count! It would just be:

Your info would just show how many of your posts were rated and the average post rating. You wouldn't be allowed to rate your own posts so cheating would be a little difficult.

This would also fix the ranking system so that the real Master Don Juans receive the title they EARNED instead of just getting 500 posts.

They have a similar post rating system on www.airliners.net. Each user has a respect rating (RR) under their screen name. The higher people rate your POSTS, the higher your RR.

i think what would make this a lot better would be if a poster was anonymous to the reader (option the poster could select) until the reader rated his post. that way newbies aren't rated so harshly and the old veterans dont get 5 stars for a stupid idea.

however, allen's not going to do any of it. what more could he want? people love it here .
