Succeeding as a photographer/online presence in social media

I do not know if this is the right forum for this, but I will give it a try since I think it is at least the right forum section.

I have been a freelance semi-pro (calling myself that cause the money does not flow in regularly, otherwise, I am fully professional in the artistic and technical meaning of the word) photographer since 5 years now. My reach and fanbase has definitely grown through Facebook and Instagram, but I am much more ambitious then. However, I am willing to have patience about it, I just want to know how you guys maximize your online presence and mainly so on Instagram because that is quite a visual social media and just perfect for the thing I do, photography.

What tips would you give me to increase my presence on Instagram organically? What can I do to further my reach as a photographer and not only my reach, but my effectivness on people?

From what I've seen, doing collabs with other artists tends to help. On Instagram I'm not sure if this works, but working on a project together with somebody that has a greater or equal following as you, can help some of their numbers trickle onto yours. If you have a standout project or your personality or work really sticks out, it will be majorly beneficial and some of their followers will also follow you. The key is to be more than just a name.
