Researchers observed that high dominance and low conscientiousness in chimps made them more successful in terms of power in the social hierarchy, dominance and with reproduction. This has also been observed in humans as well.

So the researchers wondered if this was the case, why are there different personality traits at all? Wouldn't it make sense for all members to be the same way?

They then thought there must be some advantage to having the other traits, wondering if being more d!ckish worked well in youth but harmed them as they got older where the other traits would be better suited. Instead they found those with d!ckish traits were more successful throughout life even into old age leaving the researchers confused as to why other personality traits exist. They believe these d!ckish traits work well for males but the opposite traits work better for females.

My thought is that for there to be dominance, there has to be submissiveness or lack of dominance, otherwise there wouldn't really be dominance, it would just be normal. Just like if everyone was Michael Jordan on the court, he wouldn't be the greatest ever, he would just be an average player. For something to standout, all people cannot have the same traits, otherwise it becomes the norm and there is no one to be dominant of.

So when you hear don't be a jerk...well, maybe you might want to be a jerk. It gets you laid, helps you climb the social/corporate ladder and gives you more power which likely equals more money.

Dominance is regulated by the hormone seratonin. You can research it. But people with healthy seretonin are usually conscientious and religious and their mood is extremely controlled and stable etc

Bad article as far as I am concerned. They are not using the word conscientiousness correctly. Alpha chimps are actually very conscientiousness along with dominant, quick to pick fights, irritable etc, those two are not mutually exclusive or opposite.

Alpha Male chimps are very social and aware of feelings and display strong empathy. For instance Alpha males often break up fights esp those between women, and usually console or protect the weaker individual who lost the fight. They also make alliances and i have read studies comparing chimps where those chimps better at making alliances over time took the alpha position from the more physically dominant 'bullying' alpha male.

Wanting to be a "jerk" to get laid is probably the saddest existence that I've ever heard of. It's the thought process of a middle schooler.

It wouldn't be to get laid, it enhances your success in every area of social interactions. However, that's something that is hard to just "become". Sort of something you are either born as or not born as.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.
