hey all - first time posting here, but i have read posts from other members of the community for a while now. great advice given on this site and i'm hoping i can also have some...

i'm 25, recently met a 28 year old woman and we've been seeing each other for about a month. after a month is when i usually start noticing quirks about the person i'm seeing and i decide whether or not they bother me enough to stay in a relationship (a bad habit, i know). things were going well, though moving a bit fast - when i first started seeing her, i told her i might not be ready for a serious, committed relationship and she said she was ok with that. in this month, there have been a few red flags: too much ex-boyfriend talk, casually mentioning meeting her parents, telling me she's ready to settle down and get married (imo, no need to mention this, i just assumed that was the case).

last week on her birthday, i take her to the coast for lunch on the waterfront, and she's being whiny and unappreciative throughout. i had never witnessed her being a "diva" before, and it rubs me the wrong way. a couple of days later, i bring these issues up with her, telling her the things above that bothered me about the relationship and suggest that we take things slower. this of course turns into an all night argument though it does get resolved, and the next morning she asks that i come over for dinner to relax and get our minds off the night's conversation.

before dinner, i meet her at a local wine bar where she is with her coworkers. when i meet her, she is very drunk and clearly running through a gamut of emotions. she's being very affectionate yet continually bringing up the very issues that bothered me from the night before. she mentioned that she may be ready to get married in 6 months to a year and "i would have to be OK with that", that her parents are a huge part of her life and i'd have to meet them soon, that she couldn't believe i would want to take things slower with her / consider breaking things off with her. she then bursts into tears telling me about how her father thinks she's a "worthless" person...just a huge spectrum of emotions. when we get back to her place, her emotional roller coaster peaks as she slaps me across the face for no good reason at all, citing that she wanted to do it the night before. i completely remove myself from the situation and leave her place angrily.

she eventually apologizes for slapping me and asks to meet up to talk about things in person, knowing that i am very upset. i (foolishly?) agree to meet with her and talk, and i bring up the events that took place at the wine bar / her place and tell her that i was done with the relationship. she says she has no recollection of the night's events minus the slapping, and says that she probably shouldn't have seen me that night because she was clearly not over the conversation we had the night before. she then goes on to tell me that it's not fair to her that i focus on her "negative traits" instead of her positive traits, that people break up over small arguments, and basically rejects the idea of breaking up. she instead suggests that we reset and start fresh without any expectations, and see each other on the weekend. i'm just sitting there sort of confused because i've never had someone reject a breakup so vehemently.

so now what do i do? i do like her, but there seems to be a small chance things will actually work out. i also don't understand why she seems to be so attached to me and i'm even more confused by the fact that she wants to take things slower (which is what i wanted, but is now something that she is suggesting). is she just telling me what i want to hear? what is going on?

The worst thing that a woman can do is hit you. (Yes. More disrespectful then cheating).

You dump her ass block her number and get someone who respects you.

My comments in bold.

BPD's are absolute chameleons and can adapt to suit any situation. She is "changing", temporarily, to get you back on the hook. They are master manipulators. I bet, when you first met her, she asked you a TON of personal questions, right? About past relationships, childhood, etc. She is trying to figure you out, see how you tick so she can strategize how to manipulate you. I am not kidding.

I would like to hear other's input too. This screams BPD to me............whatever it is, you want no part of it. This will NOT be the LAST time she hits you, rest assured. The worst is yet to come.
You are going to suffer confusion, sadness, depression extreme roller coaster of emotions, and extreme anxiety if you continue with her. No way around it. She will strip you of your self-esteem, self-confidence and self-respect. Then, when she has destroyed you, left you a shell of a man, as you continually bend to try and please her, her contempt for you will grow, until she hates you. But she won't let you off the hook - once she gets controlshe will find the absolute most painful way she can to break up with you. ONce that is done, she will reset the hook, move onto the next guy and repeat the cycle. It is automatic. she will repeat this cycle until the day she dies, unless she seeks treatment. But she won't, because in her mind , SHE does not have a problem.
This is all solid advice. The TONS of personal questions in the beginning...that is huge red flag. I know because it happened to me. Luckily I bailed soon after. This woman is a certified nut, not to mention the fact that she hit you. Eject!

She sounds like a nutcase.
You aren't right for each other.
You don't want a serious relationship, and she's ready to get married.

thanks for the feedback everyone. she was drunk when she slapped me and her excuse was that she was re-enacting the "slap bet" from how i met your mother. what a piece of work...for a second i thought of giving her a free pass because of that. but i quickly snapped back into reality and realized that being hit is an absolute dealbreaker. and my biggest weakness is being guilted into things / not being able to say no firmly. still something i need to work on, definitely. the question now is, how do i successfully end it?

@bible belt: yes, i did. that's probably the reason i'm in this mess in the first place. i remember her saying that she would be "even more attached" to me after having sex with her. smh.

@mauser96: yes, there were a ton of personal questions. thanks for all the insight, it is very valuable.

Be glad that we are here to help.

Fobsrus, I was married to a BPD. Everything this woman is doing to you, my ex-wife did to me, only I was a lot more passive towards her than you were to her and she never hit me. 3 months in I'm meeting her parents, she's in love with me, etc. All the same crap.

Like Mauser said, they read people incredibly well and know how get exactly what they want. They build you up to everyone in their life, and tear you down behind closed doors. You are constantly on edge. I bet she is the life of the party when you guys are out, but the minute you get into the car to leave, she's bashing you, right?

I bet this girl is hot, right? Mine was too. The hotness makes them irresistible.

They move REALLY FAST. This is how they operate. This girl is 28 and wants to get married and she knows that her window of opportunity is closing rapidly on her. This is why she is pushing you so hard. Do not confuse this with love. Because as quickly as she loves, she can leave you even quicker and screw someone else a couple days after your relationship is over, which will leave you sick, depressed, hurt and wanting her back.

The best way is to simply disappear. Go No Contact, Ghost, Block on Facebook, Don't Call, Don't Text, act like she never existed. You don't even want to know what these girls are capable of doing once you are out of the picture. They will find ways to tear your soul apart if you re-engage with them.

@expos: thanks, i am very glad you're all here to help!

i made the mistake of re-engaging her. i should have just disappeared after she hit me, but i replied to her text message apology. i personally find her attractive but it's not her looks that get to me, it's the novelty of dating someone like her. she does give me a lot of crap, saying that i'm a weird person, i ask stupid questions, almost like i just need to sit there and listen to everything she has to say. extremely irritating. i also know way too much about her past relationships...apparently her last one was a "destructive on and off" relationship where she finally had to cut off all contact with her ex. firstly, i shouldn't even know this much about her past relationship, but now that i've had some experience with her, i feel sorry for that guy...

not that i know much about BPD, but if she actually is, she must have a mild version of it. i don't think she's 100% full blown BPD but there are signs there.

i will take your advice and go ghost.

"You're not the person I thought you were, don't call me again!"

Then you disappear.
