Curious what you guys think of this article:

"Ever felt like you're walking on eggshells around a woman, never sure if she's about to laugh, cry, or throw a shoe at you?

Every guy has been there. One minute, she's sweet and affectionate. The next, she's giving you the silent treatment, blowing up your phone, or making drama out of thin air.

Here's what most guys get dead wrong:

They think the secret is to fix her mood, calm her down, or "make things right." They scramble for the perfect words, walk on tiptoe, or (worst of all) start apologizing for things they didn't do.

But that's not what works. In fact, it makes things worse.

Here's the real secret:

Emotional control is the most attractive weapon in your arsenal.

When her mood swings hit, your job is NOT to join her on the rollercoaster. It's to stay grounded, calm, and unshakeable. The more she storms, the less you react. The more she tests, the more centered you become.

Women crave a man who can handle their emotional waves without being pulled under. It's a test. One most guys fail.

The Rock Principle
Here’s a simple technique:

  1. When she gets emotional, don't argue or try to fix it.
  2. Stay calm. Speak less. Let her vent. Let the storm pass.
  3. Keep your tone steady and your body language relaxed.
  4. Offer a reassuring touch or a confident smile.
The less you react, the more she’ll respect you. The more you hold your ground, the more attractive you become.

This is strength."

I think it comes down to reliability and consistency.

A woman needs to know that when things are going sideways and crazy for her emotionally and hormonally that she can turn to you and she will have a good idea of how you will respond.

She doesn't need a man who is more of a rollercoaster than she is emotionally, that just creates a trainwreck. Now, some women who like the toxicity of this type of environment will enjoy it, but I tend to think these are the woman most guys want to stay away from.

Unless of course you are also one who likes toxicity and then you are a perfect match of on again off again and wasting each other's time and energy over years.

At some point, you said enough is enough and walked away.
At the end of the day, a man wants peace of mind, not a rollercoaster of emotions.

Blaming her s**ty behaviour on her mood changes is giving a woman a pass for her s**ty behaviour under the mantra of " I'm a woman so it's acceptable and understandable for me to be s**ty from time to time."
And I say, " No, you should, and can, do better than that ".

if you find yourself feeling this way around your woman, it can only mean one of two things: (a) she has major psychological issues or (b) you are a victim of gaslighting/emotional abuse. Or perhaps some combination of the two. In either case, it's time to plan your exit. Life's too short to waste it being with someone that you have to walk around on eggshells.

It's true in life generally, not only dating and mating... Retaining one's composure in the face of "danger"(real or perceived)doesn't come naturally to us, as a species, thus those who are can pull such things off stand out from the crowd

SG, that's a good point.

I notice that women are selective about this. While they will vent on one man and another they will stay controlled and be sweet regardless of inner crazy feeling. Its a choice.

Its all based on the man wanting approval. If the man does not care about her approval then its much easier to greyrock the storm. When the storm hits go inside. It never works to argue the storm away, you will just get wet and cold.

Issue for men is HOW to do it. If you really want the best for her and cherish her, you will have a deep desire to look for a way to ease her situation. The only way to know if inner turmoiled is eased is if she says so. This gives her ultimate control.

The triage is:

If I try to help her I am good...
If I try to help her she tells I am bad...
If I do nothing I am bad.
If I do nothing she tells I am bad.

This situation needs fuel... Any interaction from me is fuel. Just exit and the storm will lessen due to no fuel.

Think about the question: "why are you so sensitive ?"
There is never an ok time to ask this question of someone and there is not answer that is helpful.

I find that if I simply exit and don't give fuel the storm becomes contained. The storm is always there, contained or not is the question.

One point that often gets not understood is the necessary "ability" for the man to get between input and output. To think before reacting. Its a chemical thing....

^^I agree Baron. I nearly had a breakdown after my dad's unexpected death and with whom I was quite close.

NOT a nasty lashing out drama fest type breakdown just lots of crying and eventual deep depression.

My boyfriend at the time was my Rock and one of my brothers who experienced the same loss was also instrumental in getting me through.

When I lost a different brother years later I had become much stronger and better able to emotionally regulate on my own.

I dont think the article was necessarily referring to a woman's unregulated emotional outburts within in a romantic relationship.

Although that was part of it and DO believe such emotional outbursts and drama are unnecessary in that context..

For both women and men cause I have heard and experienced some pretty outrageous emotional outbursts and drama from men foo.

Life in general. Shyt happens and we deal as best we can.

I think it's a 1,000YD shot that hits the gnat on the ass.

She's in a bad mood = she's in a bad mood.

"I'm angry" = she's angry.

"I'm bored" = she's bored.

All of those '********' expressions probably have jack f___ all to do with you as a man.

The fix is most often, in my experience (and most others who 'know what they're doing,'), waiting for her to transition to the next mood which will likely be better.

As Rollo mentions in his book, "You are the bulwark for her emotions and 'drama,' unmoving. You must be the calm to her chaos." If I respond, especially immediately, it's usually not an improvement for the situation. If I just wait and don't show indifference, (this is good for a FWB or 'situationship' but TERRIBLE for an LTR!!!! Can't stress that enough.) the women in MOST CASES BUT NOT ALL, wind up hugging me and crying saying "I've been such a b____ lately, thanks for being so patient and understanding!" etc...

It really is seen as a strength. This is also one of the most classical examples of "sh_t testing." Sometimes the 'drama' isn't really about the drama per se, it's about how it affects or doesn't affect you. There is a FINE LINE on it as well. If you're being 100% genuine you'll pass. If you're just listening to listen and you turn into the emotional 'tampon' you've just given her your 'GF in a man's body' vibes. If you straight up ignore it or don't even acknowledge it, you might still be ok for sleeping around, but it's probably an indicator of you not being a good fit if you find yourself trying to tune her out.

Some women just blab and blab and blab, making a big deal out of every interaction with everyone since the dawn of time and the more interactions she has, she reiterates every single one. That's EXHAUSTING! Then again, some of the 'blabby' ones can be entertaining or interesting. Reminds me of the female version of the 'story tellers' some women are drawn to. I'm in that category, so I guess I've got a bit of a natural ability to listen a bit more. I often find myself interrupting more than I'd like to my own embarrassment, but sometimes I just need the clarity and to make sure I understand what she's saying before she goes into the 2nd preamble. LOL

Lastly, and I don't mean what I'm about to say next in a condescending manner at all, considering OP is a woman...

Sometimes it is worth it to proverbially "go with her to check for monsters under the bed and then tell her 'See? It's not so bad, is it?'" In some cases, going in with your sword and shield aggressively to 'battle the evil fiends!' can get her in the mood QUICK. I remember we (my lady and I) went on a road trip recently. She wanted to treat ME to a hotel room, but bless her heart it wasn't the kind of room she thought it was and the website was wrong or didn't match the reserved hotel's accommodations. Long story short, the clerk was rude to her to the point she came out to me and the bike crying.

After I calmed her down a bit, she mentioned subtly that she was going to avoid the lobby. I said "Nope. We're going STRAIGHT to that desk." She just said "Ok." I walked straight up to the desk with my patched cut and leathers, proceeding to tell the guy something along the lines of "I understand completely how sometimes the websites don't match perfectly what's in the rooms you offer here. Look man, I don't know you and you don't know me, but I do know this. The way you went about explaining it to her was absolute horsesh1t because she came out to me crying." He then apologized and I said "That's all I was looking for, we're square as far as I'm concerned." Later, she had to go and brag about that to all her female friends and cousins.

It's a character thing. Should be common, but it unfortunately isn't because men are taught "just be nice" etc etc etc....

Well said. You set boundaries and walk away. It’s not my responsibility to put up with your emotions.

@RoadKing_Rabbit "You must be the calm to her chaos"

Possessing nerves of steel, especially in the face of upheaval, is a classically masculine trait. If one cultivates said trait, it puts him lightyears ahead of most PEOPLE these days, who resemble these loons

More than they do Ngo Quong Troung commanding The ARVN 1st during The Battle Of Hue

yes, man can be a rock, but eventually, men will lose respect for a woman that test them.
So a man might ask himself "Why I'm still staying in this relationship with a woman that test me when there are 2 or 3 out there that might won't?"

Newsflash: Not everything is a "test." I certainly wasn't 'testing' my boyfriend after my dad died, jeez!

And what about men who lose their shyt? Yelling, punching walls or worse. Some wind up in jail ffs.

Are they testing women? I dunno maybe they are! Lol

Everyone should learn to manage emotions, shyt happens in life (not just in relationships) and we learn to deal.

And NO when women lose their shyt in an emotionally/mentally abusive way, it should NOT be tolerated.

But again I don't think the article was referring to just that. I took it to mean when she experiences pain, disappointment, loss, chaos etc don't feel you need to "fix" it. And start "doing" everything and trying to make it "all better."

Just be there for her, be strong. Be her safe haven where she can vent or cry and feel safe knowing you won't try to control or "fix" or become emotional yourself.

P.S. And when men experience upheaval and chaos in their lives, his woman should be his rock as well, someone he can lean on for support.

I always try to be. My ex (same ex who was my rock after my dad died) who was a VP of a national financial institution lost his job which was emotional and devastating. And I was 'there' for HIM! And in very short order he started his own business and became successful again.
