I showed up 5 minutes before they opened the pool to swimmers. I sat on the bench pretending to look busy on my phone. She was hooking up the plastic lanes. The bench I was sitting on was 30 feet long. She then proceeds to stand up 5 feet away from me looking at some folders.
I approach her and thank her for the tip she gave me last week. We start chatting for around 5 minutes. She is very engaging and is speaking 90% of the time. She says she's only been a lifeguard for 2 years, I then proceed to tease her and tell her I'm not sure I should be taking tips from her then. She giggles. We talk some more, I then proceed to say "If you have any more swimming tips, we should grab a drink and talk". I was going to ask for the number right after that line but she cut me off and said "Sure, I'll see how you do in the pool" and then she talks about something else.
Now, I'm not sure if she heard me about the drinks part or just brushed that part off, but that answer made no sense to me. At one point in the pool I was taking a pause to catch my breath and it happened to be at the same time there was a rotation change. Instead of walking by where I was, she took the much longer route to get to her chair. When I left (it takes at least 50 steps from the moment I leave the pool to the door of the dressing room, her chair is right in front of the door), her face was facing the other side for my last 30 steps. In the past, she always made that effort to see me and say bye.
On a related note, she isn't the 9 that I thought. She looks hotter from 20 feet high. More like a 7.75. She's also younger than I thought. Must have been 19.
