Every time that I take a casual walk outside and seeing women walking or running with the earbuds in, I think about how mating opportunities are missed. Even when their earbuds aren't in, their heads are often down and they are playing with their phones. They just aren't receptive to approaches. What I just described didn't happen in the mid-2000s or 1980s. Also, more single women have dogs now than in the past. While out walking the dog, the dog can sometimes detract attention from an approach or make it more difficult to actually do an approach because the woman will be preoccupied with her dog's needs.

Dog ownership has gone up over the years. Millennials have been the most dog obsessed generation to ever exist in the United States. A lot of women prioritize their dogs over developing something with men. I have done 2 street approaches this week where the women kept moving with their dogs.

Also, the pattern of dog ownership for women has changed. For the Boomers and about the first 2/3rds of Gen X, people coupled up first, got the suburban single family home and then got the dog. I think this changed with late Gen X'ers. With Millennials, it has been quite the opposite. Millennial women prioritize getting the dog first. Dogs seem to be the be-all, end-all for Millennials.

I write all of this from the perspective of a petless person. I have observed than childless single females tend to own more dogs and more pets overall than childless single males.

I agree.

In addition, people used to get dogs originally for protection and security, then additional companionship to join the family. Now women get them as their primary partner in life due to many reasons but most of them the wrong ones. I see power hungry women have dogs because they can control everything that the dog does and the dog will not run away or bark back at the women. It's very telling how some women control or discipline their dogs into her mindset. Then there are lonely women that do not want to exert the same level of effort into a real man/woman relationship as they do with their dogs. Once again, a certain level of control, loyalty, and somewhat imprisonment mentality at work here.

It's sad when women treat their dogs better than humans, which is what you see a lot of these days...

Just like porn can be a substitution and also a hinderance for guys in going out and meeting gals, I feel dog ownership for females is the same equivalent for hindering gals to put forth the effort in finding a good guy for them. It's way easier for them to turn to their dog for companionship/attention/ and get a level of discipline and agreement that they may not get from an actual male.

It's sad that they would print off flyers and walk miles and miles to find their lost dog, or buy their dog all this stuff to pamper it and feed it, yet when it comes to guys, you see none of that effort or action. Pitiful in my eyes...

Man! A lot of you guy's are missing the biggest golden opportunity. If a woman is walking her dog, you've got an excellent conversation opener. Maybe this only works if you genuinely like animals, but it's been a gold mine for me.

Perhaps you have to be a dog whisperer, I don't know... but I actually hope to see attractive women with dogs.
First, you smile and establish eye contact with the dog. If you have the dogs attention, you're halfway there.
Then you ask "is (he/she) friendly?" You'll pretty much already know by a wagging tail, but asking is your subtle way to gauge if the owner (your female of interest) is receptive to you. If she says that the dog is friendly, then you're "in". Pet the dog (see my below paragraph on how to approach a new dog).

Then engage in conversation
"how old is he/she?"
After petting the dog... say something like "he/she has a good healthy coat, you can tell that he/she eats healthy" (this is a compliment to the owner and will lower their defenses ). Again, if the female is receptive to you, she'll not mind standing there and that's when you make your attempt.

Also, you can usually tell a lot about the gal by the dog she has.
I've never met a gal with a pug that I'd want for anything beyond the bedroom.
Women with full bred dogs are typically card-board cutout types and usually very boring.
Typical poodles are usually just like their owners.
Women with "rescues" come in two types: One type is a virtue signaler (the first thing out of their mouth is "it's a rescue") and the other has a good heart.
Personally speaking, I've never met a woman with a mutt that I didn't like.

Just pet the dog. There's your opener.
Actually, there's a certain way to approach a dog (even the most friendly appearing). On first encounter, never raise your hand above to pet a dog. Instead, keep your hand open (palm facing toward you) and allow them to get your scent on the outer side of your hand. Then rub their neck and then you can pet them.

Pets are a way to open an avenue with a woman, this is very true.

To a certain degree pets have also become a way for women to cope with being childless. They have a need to nurture that men can't comprehend. Crazy cat lades are a meme for a reason.

That said, if a woman puts "dog mom" in her OLD profile, I'll swipe left. OLD plus a woman obsessed with her dog spells damaged goods to me.

I agree that opening a woman with a dog is easy. That's not what we're talking about here though. We're just trying to analyze the psychology of dog ownership over previous decades and in females specifically. Obviously if just going for the bang then whether they have a dog isn't a big deal. But there will definitely be a point where some guys will get placed lower in priority than their dogs. And I have come across women before where you have to practically give your life for her to place you higher than her dog in her life. Sad...

I'll add it actually makes dating women more difficult. An ex of mine was obsessed over her "simple" dog. It was whiny, didn't understand many commands and was annoying to be around. To them it's like their baby and if you can't find a way to get along with the dog, you're out.

I do however believe having a dog is an easy ice breaker. As @Black Widow Void stated, it's an easy opener and it multiplies if you yourself have a dog.

I guess everyone's results may vary but generally all dogs like me and women become more trusting of me after I meet their dogs and almost all of them had said they were surprised their dog didn't bark at me or warmed up to me so fast which doesn't normally happen. It's like they Sh1t tested me via their dog and I always passed.

I will say last year, I dated this Latina and after I saw how poorly she treated her dog(which was given to her after a friend moved away), I ended it shortly after. I can't tolerate anyone that can't take care of a dog properly or at least treat it with some dignity. I don't expect or like when they baby them either but there is a good middle ground.

I am generally indifferent towards animals. I am allergic to cats. If I liked dogs, I would own one. I have no desire to pick up after a dog. I have no desire to do anything associated with dog ownership. I'm fine with interacting with them.

If you're looking for anything behind a one night stand or occasional casual fling, dog ownership does make a woman more difficult to date. Even if you meet a woman on a swipe app, she often places her dog above you. The dog can be a cocckblock. Scheduling a date with her often has to be done around her dog's schedule. I've been on dates where the woman appeared pre-occupied with what was going on at home with her dog. It gets to the point that a dog is close to being a child, and you're dealing with a single mom. A lot of women in the Millennial generation who are never married and childless have dogs. If you're a white woman, 27-35, with a BA/BS degree or higher, and live in an large metro area, it is likely that you have a dog. Finding a petless and childless white woman is a task.

We're just trying to analyze the psychology of dog ownership over previous decades and in females specifically. Obviously if just going for the bang then whether they have a dog isn't a big deal. That point comes pretty quickly. In fact, the dog often gets in the way of forming a relationship. I'd say most women lack the sense to realize that the dog is getting in the way of them forming a relationship or a family. In previous eras, a petless/childless man met a petless/childless woman. They formed a semi-permanent relationships and if both were passionate about dogs, a dog entered the picture. Now, a woman gets a pet before she gets the man, making most Millennial men in LTRs pet cucks.

A lot of what I've said in all the quotes applies to cat owners as well.

All good points I agree with.

I agree with it being an opportunity. Just to add, I wouldn't be surprised if some of these women engage in beastiality (licking/fvcking) with their animals. I know some of them do it - so fvcking sick! but women today are sick/jaded. Anyway, to the first reply, that's how my parents did it. First they had me at 27, then they brought in the dog when I was 4 and I named it after a cartoon character. That was the best soulful dog I ever owned (it was like a border collie/sheltie mix black with brown eyebrows). When it died when I was around 10 or 11, a part of me died.

Very good point and one that I obviously overlooked.
I'll share my horror story:
First time sleeping with this gal, later in the middle of the night, her dog walks into the bedroom and starts whining. She wakes up and gets up to walk him. The first night I went out with her because I thought that something must not be right. After multiple times sleeping over, I learned that the dog had *her* trained (the dog had a routine of doing this every night in the middle of the night). I was not impressed. This dog was also not taught boundaries when humans are eating at the dinner table. Yep, this gal was childless and in view of her interaction with her dog, I doubt that she would have made a good mother.

You all would be hard pressed to find anyone here that loves animals more than I do, but like children, there needs to be some degree of discipline.

Sounds like my situation with my ex. I had to instruct her to stop babying the dog so much so that it would stop behaving in such a whiny, needy way. Needless to say my outlook on women with pets changed after that and I now try to avoid them. These days they might as well be put in the same category as single mother. They refer to themselves as dog moms already anyway.

Dogs will literally c0ckblock you. No joke!
Female dog owners spoil their dogs way too often. Even to a point where they would rather spend the entire weekend with their dog than take a vacation with you.

I learned the hard way that nothing is spontaneous with dog owners.
Everything has to be planned way in advance!

the dog is a trusted companion. the opinion of the dog will have an influence on the woman. have met ppl that the dogs just did not like, I would follow there lead on that usually, especially when appears no reason.

All true. I have been cocckblocked in numerous ways by dogs. The planning and lack of spontaneity is a real downside to interacting with a dog owner. There are times in relationships where spontaneity has a place and can enhance the attraction. This is just another reason why dog owners should be avoided for extended relationships. They're not even ideal for casual sex, which by definition is spontaneous, especially the one night stand variety.
