Singel and owning a cat...

So i got dumped about a month ago.
We were together for 5 years.
And during our relationship we decided to get a cat. (Instead of dog, because of the size of the apartment.)

She didn`t want to keep the cat when she moved out. So i got to keep him.

So yesterday i was at a friends house, and we were talking about me being singel.
And my friend said: Whatever you do, dont tell girls that you own a cat.
Puzzled by this i did a google search, and it seems that singel guys with cats are labled creepy.. (Unknown to me)

Does any pet/cat owners have any experience with this?

I`ve really grown fond of my cat over the years. So i would never consider getting rid of him.

But can it really scare off girls?
