There is a difference between a Social Worker and a Social Services worker. A Social Worker usually requires a MSW and certification and pay around 50-80k, depending if you are in the public or private sector. A social services worker is lucky to get 25-30 k a year and they only require a 4 year degree or less if you already have experience in the field. A SS worker basically determines who gets welfare among other things.

Just thought I would throw my 2c in since I work in that field.
