I agree with that too, the hard part comes from determining what constitutes a deficit more than anything.That is true but it still doesn’t change the fact that is CICO. If you eat at deficit, you will lose weight. I agree there are healthy and unhealthy ways to achieve that.
I liked this guys hypothesis and it for sure tracks with the USA obesity explosion. Fructose is too easily available in the food supply and decoupling it from fruit’s natural packaging (with all the vitamins and fiber) has had disastrous consequences for metabolic health.
The easiest way to achieve that is by eating single ingredient foods where the calorie content is more controlled individually which is also the healthiest way to eat since you are avoiding all of the additives, preservatives, food dyes, and all the other crap they put in packaged foods...
But for people who are not focusing on one ingredient foods and trying to figure out calorie content...good luck.
