right been cycling liek crazy last few weeks

suprised to notice my leggs have put on a few inches:) which im pleased about
now i am about to start a 45 day running course,will this eat them?:p

20 minite runs at the most


what you think guys

Running *can* cause a catabolic state depending on your running habits. But nt just running 20 minutes.

Have you ever seen the size of a sprinters legs compared to a marothoners?

20 minutes aint !@#$. Keep it fast and hard (run hills if you can) and you might even gain. Running hard (sprinting or hills) is key to getting into an anerobic state.

Incase you don't understand what this dude is talking about:

1. Aerobic + Extended time(usually over 30 minutes) = catabolic

2. Anarobic + Short time periods(usually under 30 minutes) = Anabolic

Catabolic: Essentially your body is breaking down complex tissue(muscle) to create energy. This is destructive to your purpose of looking sexy.

Anabolic: Is essentially the synthesis of simple tissue to create complex tissue(muscle).

To take it one step further: Catabolic puts pressure on your muscles, Anabolic puts pressure on your cardiovascular system(a good thing, unless there's a risk of heart attack it makes your heart stronger)

It's not so much that you will lose muscle by doing endurance-type training. The difference is that the fiber types don't have the same volume. The type of fibers you develop by lifting weights are made to be bigger and stronger but have very little endurance; conversely, the muscles endurance athletes have are smaller and weaker, but have extreme endurance. That's why endurance athletes are small and weak like little girls, but they can run for hours.

So you won't be losing muscle per se, you'll only be working a different kind of fiber and your muscles will lose volume.

I think one of the main issues lifters are concerned about is that high impact type cardio does a number on the nervous system which is detrimental to overall recovery.

WOW. REALLY?!!

So I won't lose muscle tissue? Gee I DIDN'T know that! I'm going to go and starve myself. I won't be losing tissue, but my muscles will be getting smaller! Good thing, I was worried for a second there that I would lose mass, but you sure set me straight! Its only losing volume!

Slow Twitch
Super-Slow Twitch (its a variaton of the slow twitch fibre).

You also think you actually lose fat cells as you get leaner, right? :rolleyes:
