I have this guy in my class, he's born in the mechanical branche, his father owns alot of land where he learned to work with machines and there he gained his talent toward mechanics.

I never had anything with mechanics until three years ago, I started studying it and found out that it really intrests me.

We both got a bachelor degree now, he did ofcourse get better grades because he gives 100% and I've been a lazy idiot and alwayse made it with just enough points...

Now we both want to become engeniers. During the exams I felt for the first time that only by giving 100% I was going to make it, which ofcourse I didn't do first semester (before the exams)... I did gain alot more intrest in the course during my exams and feel willing to put alot more effort in my studies. In addition, hearing that this other guy is doing well pissed me off, because he's such a douchebag (not for getting better grades, but his behaviour towards everybody) and just to prove that I'm better than this guy I would give 100%...

So in a way I see this "rivalry" as a good thing... To keep me motivated

Is that a question or a statement?

Well I can say, Hell yeah rivalry is a good thing. But I like to call it competition.

A rivalry is good if it pushes you to work harder.

But if makes you jealous and want to win by bringing him down, then a rivalry is a negative.

People tend to get what they want out of life, whether they realize it or not. If vanquishing your rival is what you genuinely want the most, more than sitting on your ass when you are tired, then that is what you will achieve.

Competition is very good, i myself am very competative but... if you are only doing it to beat him , thats not good. You need to decide if that is really what you want and work hard on it , not just because you want to beat him.
