When I went out on Friday, I was speaking to a guy and he said: "Listen, you have to understand that this is [city name]. You've GOT to buy women drinks here."

This flies in the face of everything that I've learned on this board and other materials. So I went on a test. Four women literally said to me "Buy me a drink!". I just looked at them and said "No. Buy me one, and if I still like you, then I'll buy you one."

I could not believe how pissed off they seemed to get. Three gave me a dirty look, and the fourth tried

"Don't you know that a man should always buy a woman a drink when she asks for one?"

I replied "Do you buy a drink for anyone who asks for one? Why don't you buy me one?".

"Are you cheap, or what?"

"Do you only attract guys who are so pathetic that the only way they interest you is if they buy you drinks?"

"A-hole" and walks off.

Personally, I sort of enjoyed it. But I'd like to get your opinion on the matter. I was probably not totally charming in my delivery (how does one say such a thing in a charming way?)

Thoughts on the matter?

If a woman asks me to buy her a drink, I would respond with something like, "Whats in it for me?" After her response I can probably tell if she's a ***** or worth pursuing.

well you were being an idiot about it which is why when they asked you for a drink, they got pissed. starting arguments is very unalpha and caring about what they say is also unalpha. you just acted like a little kid so they treated you like one.
