A lot of sci-fi provides wish fulfillment fantasies for nerds. Take Hiro Nakamura from Heroes. He is a loser geek who becomes a (no pun intended) Hero and gets the girl and becomes cool. Sci fi is full of characters who would be otherwise dorks but are considered cool in their sci-fi universe. A lot of science fiction, particularly "hard science fiction" has scientists and brainy types as the hero. Usually, in the written sci-fi, such heroes are not described as looking like handsome movie stars but plain looking (this is very common with female sci-fi authors and their characters). It's sort of a revenge against mainstream heroes who are always conventionally good looking, brave, athletic, macho, everything that the nerd can't be without not being a nerd anymore.

The harem anime (Tenchi and Oh My Goddess) is most definitely wish fullfillment fantasy for nerds and wapanese.

If you currently have too many women chasing you, calling you, harassing you, knocking on your door at 2 o'clock in the morning... then I have the simple solution for you.

Just read my free ebook 22 Rules for Massive Success With Women and do the opposite of what I recommend.

This will quickly drive all women away from you.

And you will be able to relax and to live your life in peace and quiet.

I like sci-fi.

But Star Wars in particular you can actually pick up good behavior from by watching Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford is the MAN in the original Star Wars trilogy.

It's interesting to see the difference between the old SW trilogy and the new SW trilogy. Whereas the old trilogy has Harrison Ford, the new trilogy has Hayden Christiansen acting like a complete, wimpy AFC.

Just a sign of the changing times....

I love sci-fi. I love fantasy stuff.

Your question isn't about reading selections, or the maturity they reflect. It's about social intelligence and your ability to express it. There's a stigma that comes with enjoying Sci-Fi, but only for those who make it a stigma for themselves.

I once played Starcraft while a chick I had just banged was asleep in my bed.

Seriously, no one cares. I will say this: there are some activities that are more interesting to talk about than others. For example, I wouldn't necessarily go on a long-winded discussion about video games with a girl, but it's not like playing them makes me a p00n.

Chicks for the most part don't go for hard science fiction. Found that out the hard way. Once showed a chick 2001: A Space Odyssey and she kept complaining that nothing was happening. And this is one of those chicks who is convinced beyond doubth that the Matrix trilogy is brimming with philosophical and existential depth. She was disappointed that I didn't have those movies in my collection. Tried to get her to read the novelization by A.C. Clarke (it makes the movie easier to understand), but she wasn't interested. She later admitted that she's not really a sci-fi fan, she just likes movies like Matrix and Harry Potter. Unfortunately, chicks who really like sci-fi---and if you really like it, 1)you call it SF or short and 2)you read it as well as watch it and 3)you don't confuse Hollywood SPFX action flicks for science fiction.--- are few and far between.
