How often should we talk with eachother? What are like some general guidelines I should follow in a long distance relationship?

The first rule you should follow is not to get into an LDR.

Since you already are in one, your approach to this is really just palliative--meaning you can only treat it symptomatically. It will eventually crumble. Sorry man, I wish you the best, but LDRs have a shelf life.

I know people who have done it successfully, but they all had a plan--the distance was temporary. And they stayed in daily contact, otherwise you're just living separate lives.

Collossus nailed it. I've been there, done that. Doesn't work if you aren't planning to move together again-after school, etc. It's just too hard to do when there are plenty of other willing partners out there for both of you.

You're going to grow apart and start seeing other people, both of you will be too cowardly to just breakup. And the pain will be so much worse when you beat yourself up for not just cutting your losses a long time ago.

I'm a highly positive man and believe in infinite possibilities. But when it comes to LDRs, it's just the way it is.
