"Blank Mind on Dates? She's Dropping Hints You Keep Missing"

The plates get cleared and the silence lands like a brick. You can feel her waiting. Your brain offers up your commute, your job, the weather — topics that have ended more second dates than bad breath.

Here's what most guys never learn: women hand out free conversational material all night long. Tiny clues about what they actually want to discuss. Catch them and you never run out of things to say — because she's telling you what to say next.

Rule 4 of the "22 Rules" trains your ear to catch every single one.

Prom is in the beginning of May.

I have 2 back-up dates to prom. These 2 girls are my friends although I believe one of them likes me.

Now my question has nothing to do with these two girls. It has to do with a third. Except she is being a real b!tch about it and for some reason thinks i'm a chump enough to take it. I think she's gotten too much special treatment from AFC's in her lifetime.

She is going out with this guy for 2 months but apparently she mentions to me that she wants to dump him soon. She wants to see how things turn out. She is a junior. The guy is a senior. She asked me to wait 3 weeks before asking anyone to prom, that way, if things don't work out, she can go with me. She may like me more than a friend. I've only known her for about 2 weeks and talk to her rarely.

Now, don't worry, i called her on her **** and she knows i'm pissed off she even asked such a question. She asked me this on msn so i blocked her. She gives me a big hug the next day and apologizes, yet she asks me to consider it again. I told her no way. Back-up sh!t is not for me.

Ironically, I'd rather take this girl than the 2 backups though all 3 are rather attractive. I don't really want to take just a friend to prom. However, from my point of view, I don't see anyway I can go with this girl to prom without giving in. I assure you that there is no way i'll consider her conditions.

I thought about telling her "you want 3 weeks? you've got till tomorrow." That's really a bluff though and if she calls my bluff, i guess i'll have to ask someone by the next day.

Out of principle, i shouldn't even take her because she had the audacity to ask such a thing from me.

Any suggestions?

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

I think you should take the best looking one and tell the others that she asked first and you can't lie to her or something like that. Not only will she make you look good at the prom and give a good amount of prestige (spell chk), but I'd bet it'll make those other girls go crazy. Hook up with the hot one and say you didn't and work the other two on the side.

the hottest one is the one who's being a b!tch about the whole thing making me a backup though.

I know this will be hard to do and I'm not even sure I could bring myself to do it but I think the ideal thing to do would be to ask your friend (the one you think likes you) to the prom. It would be a good way of making yourself unavailible to the 3rd chick and she would like you more as a result of it. Then after the prom if she did break up with her BF ask her out.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

Interesting.

It would be the perfect plan if I were to stay here for college but i'm going to be 6 hours away.

Does giving her a day or two be giving in too much?

She must think i'm a tool if she thinks i'd accept her first proposal. But if it were on my terms?
