Personal trainer

I've finally decided that a personal trainer is right for me.

Except i have no idea where to start to look for a trainer, I don't belong to any professional gyms and i mostly work out at home.

My questions are:
1)What is the best way to find a personal trainer?
2)What are some good signs/qualities that i should look for in a personal trainer?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated

I am a personal Trainer, so I can tell you what to look for.
First of all, you want some body with the right credentials: certifications and experience. Do a google search for personal trainers in your area, ask friends who may have trainers, go to some private gyms in your areas and ask about their private trainers. Once you find a few trainers you like, ask them if they wil give you a free session so that you can try them out- most good trainers will do this. In the first session this is what they should do- If they miss any of these things, they may not be a good trainer. They should do a physical readiness analysis to find out the general level of your health and any injuries. They should find out your goals and establish a time frame for you to reach your goals- and a plan of action to reach those goals. They should look for any muscle imbalances and describe how they are going to improve them. During the work out, make sure they are totally focused on you and that they can describe why you are doing a certain exercise. Most personal trainers will want to train with you for months and months because it is good money for them. A superb trainer like myself will be able to get you in the best shape of your life in one month, training three times a week. At that point you will have all the knowledge you need to keep going b yourself and if you want to keep training with me after that, it is purely because you enjoy having a coach and somebody you are accountable to not because you still need a trainer. Those are the basics of what you should look for.

Credentials......being fit isn't not learned in the class room.

If you'd like a good trainer keep it simple. Find one of your friends who have a physique you want,ask them to teach you or show you how they learned.

You gonna have to get a gym membership to get anywhere.

I've been a personal trainer for almost 8 years.

As a general rule, make sure your trainer has a lot of experience. I made a lot of clients puke my 1st year. Most gyms hire rookie trainers, that's where I made my start. Self-employed trainers or studio trainers are generally much more experienced.

A national certification is a must, a degree is a plus. Remember, experience is the trump card, I learned a lot more in the field than I ever did in the classroom. I would take someone without a degree with 10 years of experience over someone with a master's degree and 0 experience.

Look for someone that matches your personality.

Look for a trainer that has attained good results with his clients. He should have before and after pictures of past and current clients.
 

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.
