Well, we are inside of a large cosmic void. You can visualize it by imagining our galaxy falling into this void. Void KBC is 2 billion light years across is characterized by 15 to 50 percent underdensity -- which does several things. Less x-ray and y-ray radiation might mean proper conditions for life to develop. Secondly, light travels slightly different through our void, thus our observations of distant universe are most likely incorrect. Hubble constant measurements are incorrect. Red shift measurements are incorrect.
We do calculate age of universe to be 13.8 billion light years, and yet we observe galaxies older than universe. This new study of KBC void suggests age of universe much younger, perhaps as young as 12.7 billion light years.
