Newt is the trigger man for the Republican party.
You can draw an almost, direct line, with Newt's mid 90's power plays to the downward spiral republican party.
Their fatal flaw, at least since the 90's, has been that they always seem to misjudge the american people and are never truly in sync with what the people want.
In the 90's government shut down, Newt actually believed that he would not come out unscathed if he would not work with the president who was trying to send a balanced budget but not at the expensive of medicare and medicaid.. two of the american untouchables in politics it seems. He and the party honestly believed that the public thought it was going to be cool with just slashing pretty much nothign but medicare a medicaid and when clinton brought forth a package to balance the budget without trimming those, and he didn't budge, his goose was cooked and was eventually made to resign the speaker of the house behind it. that was pretty dang stupid in retrospect.
americans don't care about gays for the most part. that's all the republicans care about. americans feel that the middle class is disappearing, and the republicans want more tax breaks from the rich. The republicans are hanging on to the 80's like a 45 year old man with a T top convertible, a mohawk with tight leather pants blasting hotel California.
but what has really killed the republican party is the internet. People can now get together and talk about just how stupid some of their ideas, rhetoric and propaganda really is.
I am convinced the republican party has no, freaking idea what the avg american wants or even needs for that matter. they literally do not have a plan to do anything but cut taxes. That is the Republican entire platform.
lol not even YOUR taxes which makes it all the worse. Their entire platform is basically elect us, we want to cut corproate and rich taxes.. just trust us it will work out somehow. That's not gonna work in 2012.
If not for a smoked filled deal to get bush in office and a war that scared the country into not putting anyone else in office, the republicans would have been out of office for a while.
