"As users manage to abstain from porn and cut way back on masturbation, their desire to connect with others surges. So does their confidence, their ability to look others in the eye, their sense of humor, their perception of their "manliness," their concentration, their optimism, their judgment, their attractiveness to potential mates, and so forth. Even those formerly suffering from social anxiety are more often than not emboldened to explore new avenues for social contact: smiling and joking with work colleagues, online dating, meditation groups, nightspots, and so forth. In some cases it takes months, but often the shift is so rapid that it catches them by surprise. (I'm not implying that social anxiety is solely due to porn use, or that extroversion is a sign of its absence. I'm merely wondering whether, for some, more careful management of sexual desire might be surprisingly beneficial.)"

Masturbation and porn should be avoided like the plague. Sure, masturbation is a "normal" function that we've all been designed for; but then again, pornography has never been as accessible and mainstream as it is in this day and age. The mainstreaming of porn is another step in the normalization of deviance. As it is, many people already consider "regular porn" to be "too vanilla" nowadays, so many are seeking out the real weird stuff. It's a matter of time before that stuff is no longer considered "wild" and "cutting edge." So where does it end?

I know many will think this sounds square and Puritanical; but NAMBLA members also think the same of those who don't accept the deviance they're trying to normalize, and like to rationalize along the lines of "You know, there was once a time when homosexuality and interracial marriage were also taboo, and now that time is long past."

A lot of sexual dysfunction stems from over-masturbation and pornography addiction.

I agree with the quote in the original post.

On the other hand:eek: , the comedian Katt Williams once said that the next time he was at the club and about to take a girl home, he would go in the bathroom and jack off first, because after that, he wouldn't end up with so many ugly skanks in his bed.

It's great to be horny enough to want to go out and meet women, but like anything else, it's about balance, or else you can be prone to bad decisions.

In my experience, jacking off can either drain you and you feel like sh*t, or it can relax you, feeling content about yourself.

The difference is the occasion and motivation. If I'm sitting at home, bored and depressed, nothing happening, then jacking off will drain me. But if I'm in a good mood, fantasizing about some hot girl, maybe that I had sex with, or hope I'm gonna have, then I'll be confident and happy afterwards.

I've had days where I jacked off several times and then absolutely owned the party in the evening. Then I've had times where I didn't masturbate for weeks and months, and I'd be horribly insecure.

Actually when I'm on a "success streak" with hot girls my sex drive goes through the roof, and I have to do it all the time, no problems. As success breeds more success, having sex breeds even more sex drive.

P.S.: But watching ridiculous porn and thinking "that could never happen to me" will not make you feel good about yourself.

The article employs a fair amount of trickery to portray the message that porn and masturbation is "bad".

The very first sentence should be a huge clue. Remember folks: correlation is not causation!

Next, the article only speaks about what happens in porn addicts. How do they define a porn addiction? What percentage of porn viewers can be considered addicted? How do the results hold for those who aren't addicts?

The author has lofty ideals about what our lives should be like. Who is she to judge us and tell us what we like? What we will find rewarding?

Why should I invest time, money, and energy persuing a "real" relationship when sometimes all I want to do is get my rocks off? Women can be a real pain in the ass to deal with. I'm not going to them when my hand works just as well (also no pregnancy, false rape claims, or stds).

I don't want to be disrespectful, but if you think your hand is better than a woman, why don't you just date your hand and stop learning about dating girls?
I agree that "women can be a real pain in the ass". But that's the game, u know.
That's my opinion..

Look man, if all you want to do is 'get your rocks off'...then go on and "get your rocks off"...but some of us on this board are actually looking to improve our selves and live more fulfilling lives...take your pessimism elsewhere.

i agree

i suffer from social anxiety, and i didnt notice any difference after stopping porn and masturbation for weeks ... not even a difference in energy or motivation .. i felt the same .. i still watch porn and masturbate but a lot less than before because i realized it doesnt help when having sex, if u masturbate too much you will be unable to ejaculate

About three days. I feel hornier than I have in... a long time. My balls are jumping at some release, but I'm getting this vague sense of euphoria the longer I keep them at bay.

Will keep you posted. I'm hoping to manage about a week.

Hahahaha LOL

I'm trying to do it gradually. Stopped for three days and did it once. Now I'm stopping for 5 days or more.

Don't touch your **** except when you pee... You'll start to get laid after month or less. You can't handle sexual energy anymore.

Day 7 for me.

http://yourbrainonporn.com/
http://www.reuniting.info/

have been great places to study the theories about the side effects of porn/masturbation/orgasm.

When I feel an urge to tug my peener, I read the testimonials. It's a 183 page pdf. http://www.reuniting.info/download/pdf/0.BENEFITS.pdf - If you have doubts, 183 pages of personal experiences have to be some sort of affirmation right?

I've always associated guilt with masturbation, and just like my past personal use of marijuana, nicotine, and alcohol, I always felt like I relied on it to avoid boredom, feel good, and use it as an alternative to socializing because I fear interaction.

What precipitated the urge to never splurge? I just got out of a LTR. I don't think masturbation was the main issue to our failure, but I did notice that when our libidos didn't match, I would begin to feel controlled having to ask for sex, and being declined, I began to masturbate and utilize porn and take care of my needs myself. When I did, I no longer felt attracted to her. I started to see flaws in her appearance, personality, etc. Whereas if by circumstances, I did not masturbate, my libido pushed my brain to be more seductive and I would be able to override her lack of enthusiasm, and we would have great sex. So in hindsight IMO, there's definitely evidence to show that masturbating and porn can have negative consequences. You give your power away to a video screen.

In the few 7 days I have abstained from PMO (porn/masturbation/orgasm) I've found myself more desiring of human interaction and productive.

Oddly, the last time I stopped PMO was for 2 months, and I do recall at that time, I was spitting game at girls who I thought were out of my league.

On the negative side, I think the addiction is pretty hard to kick, cause I find myself with raging morning wood, and I gotta Mike Tyson uppercut that mother and be like Stay Down *****.

I look forward to meeting girls and getting off nature's way. Although... the more I study, I'm looking forward to finding a girl to investigate Karezza. It's non-orgasm love making. http://www.reuniting.info/karezza_method_lloyd

Cheers. Don't You Touch Your ****.

I broke the fast, wish I didn't. It helped tremendously. I could interact with most everybody much easier, I was getting more looks and interaction from females, and I felt good. Horny as hell, but good.

It's just mind over matter, I guess. I'm gonna say not jacking off might be an integral part for DJing.

I look at porn like junk food or candy. You can consume it once in a while, but if you take too much it can cause health problems (in porns' case mentally or psychologically).

However if used in moderation you should be okay. I try to view it on average about 1X a week. Kind of like how people who have a strict diet have "cheat day" where they can eat pizza/ice cream or something like that. Like everything in life, its all about balance.

Not necessarily. I think his comment was bull****. The essence of his comment was - "Why do I need to do this when all I want to do is get off? Real women are too much for me". He's knocking the idea before even trying it and that is the hallmark of ignorance. Anybody who agrees with his reasoning is a loser.

What do you have to lose if you try? NOTHING. If you wanna be a skeptic - thats fine, but be a skeptic about something that isn't so trivial. Quit over analyzing...that seems to be the problem around here.

What bull****! I always masturbate before dates. Going in with a clear head and sack really helps me act smoother and feel more relaxed

I think we should make a distinction here between masturbating and porn. Are you jerking off because you want to, need to blow of steam, prepping for a big date or are you jerking off because you're looking at porn and you're looking at porn because, hey, its porn. I'm taking this as a challenge to myself.

I look at too much porn which causes me to jerk off way more than I normally would and there's a good chance its eroding my game.

I'm starting up a journal soon, and part of it will be on cutting my porn watching waaay down, possibly to zero.
