Why "Whatever You Want" Keeps You Single

She says the movie looks dumb; you suddenly agree. She tests you with a little attitude; you apologize for nothing.

You think you're being easy to get along with. She reads something else entirely: a man with no edges. Nothing to hold on to. No friction, no tension, no reason to wonder what he really thinks.

The "22 Rules" taught me to push back — playfully, calmly, without needing her approval. Strange things happened after that.

I just got done talking with a girl on msn. We've known each other for a couple of years. Anyway, she had to go lie down because her back is hurting, but she told me if i wanted to continue our conversation that I'd have to call her. I asked her why she couldn't call me herself and if her hand was broken. She said it wasn't and that I could continue the conversation by myself if I'd like. I said ok. So should I call her? Should I let her wait a little while?

"So, What Do You Do for Fun?"

She asks it casually, mid-sip. And you feel the floor open up, because the honest answer is work, gym, and a couple shows you're half-watching.

Women rarely say this out loud, but a man with a life is attractive before he says a word. The guy who spent Saturday deep-sea fishing and came back with photos and a story — he walks in already interesting.

The "22 Rules" pushed me to build a life worth talking about. Turns out the fastest way to be interesting to women is to be interested in your own life first.

I wouldn't call her, at least not immediately. Well, it all depends on what you were chatting about initially. If you're one of her girlfriend, you better call her now. Else that girl-friendship will damage....

We were talking about "nice" guys and "pussies". Actually, her exact words were "if you want to continue the pusssy talk".

I'd tell her I'll call her when she drops the "princess" attitude.

She is right -- why even chat online for a few years!! You want to see them in person!!

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
