It has always been an open secret that the military attracts a disproportionate number of gays (just like the priesthood and the naval profession). There's a reason why they had a "don't ask, don't tell" policy long before homosexuality became encouraged and mainstream. And it make perfect sense. I mean, if you are gay, being in a confined environment with a lot of dudes and no women is like a dream come true.This had the full blessing of the USN back in the 70s.
